Have eaten here 10+ times over the years for both lunch and dinner and true to form the food was faultless and a straight 5 stars. Never had a disappointing meal here ever. However on a busy Easter Sunday night the service fell apart. Six staff were not working to stations so all six staff served our table at various points so poor service ensued. Errors included a dirty champagne glass, initially warm wine (rectified rapidly) though after the initial tasting we had to pour the rest of the bottle throughout the meal (as did the neighbouring tables), tap water smelt and tasted heavily chlorinated, 10 minutes to clear the main course plates and another 10 to get the dessert menus, delivered another tables desserts to start with and ours came separately. Finally they made an error on the bill though quickly sorted in our favour. Would still return without hesitation as hopefully a one off but hope they sort out the service as this has always been a favourite of ours though sadly not living up to the former Michelin starred glory. Total: a generous 4 stars.

I came back with my family for maybe the 10th time since it is near to my home. The standard of the food is extremely high and this restaurant beats all competitors in the area hands down. We went for Sunday lunch and were surprised not to see more tables occupied.

We went for the large taster menu and it was a truly excellent meal, great service and pretty good value for a Michelin Star restaurant. Will definitely be back in the near future.

The servers/maitre d' couldn't have been friendlier or more helpful. The food was good too, but it was the service that was memorable : )

A couple of years ago we had the best meal we ever shared at Ockenden Manor - the tasting menu. The return trip this year was underwhelming by comparison. The tasting menu still had some star dishes - the mackerel and turbot were great and the Roquefort with pear was sensational. However the service was clunky with parts of the excellent ‘flight of wine’ arriving out of synch with the food, and a theoretically post-prandial coffee arriving ahead of the desert.

Breakfast the next morning was pedestrian - not very nice bacon and rather tasteless scrambled egg.

Will probably give it a rest for a year or two to see if it recovers.
