This is an absolutely lovely stone house within beautiful grounds, including an orchard which has views across the estuary. Unfortunately it felt like no thought had been put in to what little things guests might need or appreciate; log burner but no matches, dishwasher, but no tablets, no cushions on the sofa, very limited television channels, weak internet. If you plan to cook then there are plenty of utensils, but no condiments. Having a picnic blanket to take to the orchard would've been lovely.

The mattresses were thin and very firm. The bathrooms/en-suites were very nice and the shower and bath were great.

Unusually there was no welcome pack with instructions or useful local information. There was a folder with 3 sheets explaining the water was from a local spring, a sheet that had been sent previously via email and a cleaning check list for you to do before you leave, which ensures you get your cleaning/damage deposit back! This wouldn't have been an issue if it was clean in the first place (cobwebs, dog fur, dust etc).

All told this was a beautiful house, with lovely grounds, but no direct views from the house and very close to a noisy main road. Linen, towels, toilet rolls and an abundance of cleaning products were provided. Bring everything else!

Liked best: The surrounding area.

Management Response

The Stables is nestled in the centre of a collection of listed farm buildings set in 2 acres of grounds in a unique site designated of Outstandind Natural Beauty and also within the Snowdonia National Park.. The old Barmouth to Dolgellau road, quiet by urban standards, can at the peak times of the season become busy with holiday makers traveling to the incredibly popular beaches at Barmouth. We really hope that you will book with us again in the near future as we have now addressed any anomalies that you may have experienced.

We had a super holiday,as there were just the 2 of us and our dog we only used the ground floor,as that contains a bed room and small ensuite, loads of room, with good outside space, where we spent every afternoon in the sun, the evenings were a bit chilly, so we lit the log burner,so very cosey.
Could do with some cushions in the lounge, I used my pillows during the evening
We have rented 2 properties this year, both times I took my hairdryer and there was one, this time I didn't and there wasn't one.

“Spacious and comfortable”

We had a lovely week at The Stables. There were 5 of us and the house was extremely spacious, clean and comfortable. The kitchen was very well-equipped and the showers were good, with plenty of hot water. The house was warm, despite it being rather cold and wet outside, and we would have been comfortable even without the woodburner, which was an added bonus.

We had 2 dogs with us and the garden, being mostly walled, was a safe place for them to run. Although it is close to the main road, it is very quiet and, after John had shown us round the house, we hardly saw anyone during the week we were there.

The Stables is very convenient for Barmouth and there are lots of excellent walks in the area and good restaurants nearby.
