Owner description: The landscape of Rapa Nui, the indigenous name for Easter Island, is an eerie exhibit of ancient cultural remnants of an abandoned desert-dwelling people.

Rapa Nui National Park is a World Heritage Site located on Easter Island, Chile. The park is divided into seven sections covering most of the island.

Rano Kau (which includes Orongo)
Puna Pau (named after the quarry where the pukao were carved).
Rano Raraku (named after the quarry where most of the moai were carved).
Anakena - Ovahe
Ahu Akivi
Costa Norte
Hanga Roa (Urban Area).

Even though we have all seen the moais before whether in pictures, movies you haven't truly experienced them until you get to see them personally. It's a wonderful experience that you will cheerish for the rest of your life.

All your life yyou have seen "Tiki gods" but the power of actually seeing the moai cannot be descriibed/. It was unexpected and so much more than I could have anticipated. Seeing them is like seeing a handful of icons for the first time--Pyramids, Eiffel Tower, leaning tower of Pisa. You think you know them, but the experience of seeing them helps you understand why they are so firmly lodged in our collective unconscious

After living in Chile for quite a few years we eventually got around to visiting Easter Island. This Island must rate as one of the most fascinating tourist destinations. The island itself is the most remote inhabited island on earth and is totally unspoiled and unsophisticated. It is far more beautiful than I had expected and the history of the Easter Islanders and the stories behind the Moais is incredibly interesting. The tours around the island are well run and very informative. The sight of all the huge Moais is quite unique and the visits to the various caves and volcanoes very exciting. One has to be in good health and have good walking shoes to cope with all the climbing of hills and crawling through caves. Be sure to have a bottle of water with you at all times. The Anakena beach is a beautiful spot with the palm trees, the line-up of Moais, the pale pink sand and the crystal clear, blue and turquoise sea. The locals are very exotic looking and horses are the main mode of transport. Anyone who is interested to do a trip to this island should do so and as long as they are not expecting five star accommodations and restaurants they won't be dissapointed.
