This Hotel is in a very very nice setting. The Hotel has tented rooms which are very nice. The beds are comfortable and they provide a lot of blankets which is strange when you arrive but in the middle of the night when temperatures drop to near freezing, you appreciate the blankets.

Loads of very cute Monkeys around. Very nice and friendly staff.

For the unfit, this hotel will be interesting as you have to go down an escapement to the rooms.

Room Tip: All rooms have great views but remember to lock your tent or the monkeys will get you.

i spent a weekend here and would recommend it for a quiet getaway for 2. the lake has hippos and one can take a boat ride here..the attendants know how to navigate the waters and avoid the hippos which can easily topple you over *shrieks*. There is an eating area jutting out into the water and is good for an evening meal by the water. Rooms are comfortable too...

Room Tip: visit on a weekend

This is perhaps one of Kenya's least known and exclusive crater lakes to experience close to nature. Crater Lake is one of Naivasha's three lakes: others being the famous Lake Naivasha and Oloiden Lake.

It is a tented camp built deep inside a crater lake and bustling with rich bird life and close encounters with hyenas, flamingos, Columbus and Rhesus monkeys, giraffes. You can actually take a walk among these animals in a private animal sanctuary and take a hike on the surrounding cliffs.

Superb service from the team there, great rooms and that unforgettable meals on the floating restaurant.

Great get away place. exclusive, personalized service, great ambience, friendly staff. I was more surprised when we were asked us what time we would like to have dinner & bfast as opposed to 'dinner is served at....' no check out time restrictions. we were taken to the sanctuary by a very friendly guide, planted a tree... we will definitely be back to crater lake. Ideal place for board meetings, romantic getaways....like my partner said 'real decisions can be made here'.. and I totally agree.

Crater L, General Manager at Crater Lake, responded to this reviewResponded 6 June 2015

This time around we promise you more activities this time: bird watching with more than 400 species available, discovery sporting, tree planting, boat riding at the Crater Lake while being educated on how the lake was formed, Both day and night game drives, counting of the stairs. The nature walk coupled with sundowner are a loveable experience.

Welcome to Crater Lake once more.

Don't expect 5* luxury. The rooms are OK, but certainly not great. Ours had decidedly dodgy plumbing and lethal wiring, but the view was spectacular.

The resident troop of colobus monkeys is impressive, the birdlife is spectacular and diverse. There is a pleasant hike around the crater with a helpful guide available.

The food was mediocre; the standard buffet is pretty awful while the a la carte option is marginally better.

Staff were very helpful and friendly, but let down by a pretty run down infrastructure.

(Not only is there no wifi, but phone network coverage is very poor)
