A fery terminal, nothing much to say about it. It's quite straightforward if you come by car/motorbike but for cyclists atm a genuine nightmare unless you know where to go which is to the right side of the jetty, where the staff of the jetty enters. Technically you're not allowed to take the motorbike/car entry but atm you might have too many troubles to find the proper bicycle entry.

On foot it's all quite straightforward although it's a bit of a walk from the railway/bus station. In my 12 years in Malaysia I have seen this jetti/railway station station seen changing and to some extend not for the better. Yet, the ferries go reasonable regular and the 20-25 minutes to Penang are OK.

We drove our Land Rover Double Cab to the Sultan Abdul Halim ferry terminal in Butterworth to get ferry to Georgetown but were in for a surprise as this time the vehicle was classed as a pick-up truck and we had to pay RM 12.70 instead of the usual RM 7.70!
The fifteen minute journey was however beautiful and worthy as we even got to see the sun setting over the island.

The waiting facilities for foot passengers could be better organised & needs brightening up. Most of the time, the ferry is scheduled 15-20 mins apart but in the evenings, it is an hour. The company that was allowed by the federal government to take over has no interest in upgrading anything for the ferries on the basis it is not profitable. So, be warned, you need to give more time for waiting if you want to take the ferry. If you do not have a car, this is your only option to get to the island from the mainland.
