As one reaches the Rapidpenang bus terminal at Weld Quay.. newly painted arches ..side stalls where one could purchase titbits.. bottles of favorite drinks before one walks towards the ferry.
As you walk towards the ramp as one waits for the arrival of ferry .. one notices spaces had been cleared on the right to had better view..whereas cars...bikes queue for their turns.
With the newly improved painted ferries...before one could get on board..waiting areas again kiosk had been setup to cater one's needs...massage chairs for tired bodies.
From inside..the view breathtaking .one could take pictures of family or by self.. on going ships berthing nearby...once upon reaching the mainland...constructions nearby.
For those who unable to walk the stairs...there's FREE SHUTTLE BUS to take you to the bus terminal..where one boards express buses to destinations of one's choices.
Overall one could experience the adventure by boarding the ferry.

Queue for almost 45 Minutes by car (start queue around 5:45PM) and finally able to hop into the Ferry. Free from Penang to BW but need to pay from BW to Penang. The ferry is quite old and one ferry only can take upto 33 normal cars.

The view is good and it took around 30 minutes to reach opposite shore.

I have a lovely and wonderful journey in the ferry. The wash room is horrible.

The ferry wont shake and very stable while cruising.

Was told no improvements have been made since 1988, after an unfortunate incident.

Elderly, couples with kids, special needs, if you're arriving from KL from the electric train, thinking that taking the ferry is the most convenient, I can assure you it's not. Please make other plans to get to the island.

Sure it's cheap to take the ferry but the steep walk and other physical challenges are best avoided.

Only able-bodied with no luggages can hoof it.

The journey takes about 20 minutes, lil bit dirty sea, but viewable scenery, you can also sea the Penang bridge.

We used the ferry to and from Penang Island, it was cheap and conveniently located a short walk from the Butterworth railway station. There is also a bus terminal as well as taxi's located outside the ferry station on the Island. Too Easy!!
