My wife and I recently spent three nights at Viang Yonok, and we can only endorse the previous favorable reviews. The hotel is a very pleasant mix of laid-back bed and breakfast and the amenities of a boutique hotel.

The location at the edge of Chiang Saen lake is superb, and ideal for exploring the region by bike or car. The owners were extremely helpful and charming, and went out of their way to assist with trip planning and any other queries.

The food was delicious, not least due to the superb home style cooking of "Mom".

Certainly a place to return to!

Ian and Vanessa go out of their way to make you feel welcome. Her mom prepares outstanding Thai meals, they have paid attention to little details in building the place, and it is wonderful to be in the country away from the hustle and bustle yet a few minutes from a sweet little town with cheap massages, a wonderful museum and market, and cool old temples.
Drawbacks? Mosquitos....lots of em.....and you can not be allergic to cats since there are 7 or so of them and they have the run of the place. They have bikes, kayaks and ideas to help you explore and they are just so so gracious you do feel at home...would go back in a heartbeat!
AND, free internet...AND Chiang Saen is much much more charming than Chiang Rai!

This place exceeded my expectations by far. Everything from my arrival to my departure two days later than planed. After eight days here I found this to be allmost like a second home.

The accomodation here is way over what you will find in the area. 5 star hotel for a 3 star price I would say. Wonderful surroundings with one of the best thaifood cousines I found so far. Exellent bungalow with very silent aircon. What realy differs this hotel from most of the others is the concern and care for your wellbeing. The service here is extremly good and this is realy value for very little money.

This is a place to come back too. – I know I will !!

Well done Ian & Vassanna, with staff.

This was our third visit, this time we took our parents visiting from England too. We were made so welcome by ALL the staff and spent 3 very pleasant days at Viang Yonok. The home cooked food was delicious & our different preferences (vegetarian/ not too spicy) were dealt with in style (see photo!) What we noticed is how fantastic the area is for bird watching! Without leaving the comfort of our terrace overlooking Chiang Saen Lake we spotted kingfishers, chinese pond herons, moor hens and many, many others! And there's so much more wildlife & natural beauty to explore just walking or driving around the quiet lanes of Chiang Saen Lake. We used the lovely pool & well-equiped gym several times - and just enjoyed sitting in the beautiful gardens and relaxing. If you can tear yourself away then The Hall Of Opium is a museum well worth visiting and Doi Tung and the Royal Villa are also less than an hours drive away. You can certainly spend much longer than 3 days at Viang Yonok there's so much to do & enjoy!

Everything we expected from the earlier reviews, and more. Not only is the resort very attractive physically, one is made to feel like a personal guest. Both Vassana and Ian are warm, engaging people who do everything they can to make you feel at home - as do all their staff.
