Reviewed 14 September 2016

We chose to stay at the Phulay Bay ("PB") for a Wedding Anniversary weekend, and could not be happier with the choice after thoroughly enjoying the level of hospitality, our Villa, and the resort.
The airport transfer on arrival was very comfortable, with the resort a 40 minute drive from KBV. We were greeted on arrival at the PB by senior management and our Butler (the excellent Khun Patty), and granted a Reserve Villa for our two night stay, which is an enormous Villa with a huge over-sized bed, private pool & outdoor relaxation area, and large internal central circular bathtub. The Villa was in a quiet end of the resort and behind high walls, so whilst any outlook is limited, it is very secluded and private. Due to the design of the Villa, a few minor aspects of the accommodation are not ideal or to everyone's taste (an exposed outdoor bathtub, a large outdoor "courtyard" that has no real purpose, the west-facing glazed shower & WC that is very hot in the afternoon sun, conversely a very dark wardrobe area), but in general the style of the Villa offers a mixture of quite unique design points with a natural & relaxed finish, and was very comfortable.
The PB offers excellent Food & Beverage services, as would be expected at this quality of resort. Our meals in both the Thai & International restaurants were very good, and the cocktails at the "sunset bar" added to the excellent view. The Breakfast is very good quality, and in particular offers amazing fresh (& sweet!) pastries - dangerous for that time of day!
We found the swimming pool a true highlight of the resort, with a huge pool offering an amazing view across Phang Nga Bay. The seating is plentiful and excellent, and pool staff were very attentive. Even significant renovation works on the Poolside Bar during the Low Season did not detract too much from the ambiance. It could be one of the best resort pools in Thailand.
The level of service from the staff at all levels was excellent, and the effort and personal attention put in by our Butler was exceptional. All the staff appear to take pride in the operation of the PB, and genuinely appear to have an interest in their guests, and their enjoyment of the resort.
The location of the resort somewhat limits activities beyond the resort grounds, but there is a decent public beach a short ride away (which helps as the PB does not have a sandy beachfront), which also has a number of decent hotel restaurants/bars for those staying at the PB for longer. There are very limited retail services in the area, with even just a 7-11 a 15 minute scooter ride from the PB.
In summary, our experience of the PB was very special, and the quality of the personal service and the relaxing ambiance of the resort is something we will remember for a long time, and something we would certainly recommend to try.

Dear GandCAdventures,

Thank you so much for such an amazing detailed review in Tripadvisor. We are so happy to hear that you could feel that we are proud of the service we deliver to our guest and constantly looking for opportunities to improve their stay with us. Our main purpose is to make feel our guests part of our family and take the greatest care of them and its a pleasure to know that you felt the same.
The design of the villas is quite unique and I am sorry to hear that you were not able to use the outdoor bathtub and courtyard from your villa. Some of the guests do use it and find it quite relaxing.
Our Pool is great indeed, its size, views and service are just spectacular and it definitely invites our guests to spend all the time there. I am sorry that we had to conduct some improving maintenance during the period of your stay.
The food at our Reserve is incredibly yummy and the homemade pastries and jams and smoothies cannot leave you indifferent.
Patty is also incredible and you hit the jackpot by having her.

We are looking forward welcoming you back soon at our beautiful and peaceful Phulay Bay.

Warmest Regards,

Liliana Shkepu

We have recently enjoyed a trip to Krabi and decided to stay at Phulay Bay. The place is gorgeous, very well maintained, and it really feels like an oasis.
We arrived in the morning to the hotel after a 45 min drive from the airport. We decided to use the hotel car and it was very professional and a smooth ride. When we arrived to the hotel we were welcome and greeted by the management, and immediately sent to our room. We go the Royal Villa 30 and my friends stayed at 33, both amazing right on the water, very spacious, amazing bed and bathroom and lots of outdoor space too, with a private pool, and lounge area. Our butler Patty was great, always smiling and very professional, she made us feel like home.

We discovered one of the best foods you could experience in Thailand thanks to Chef Alex Gares and his extraordinary team. We enjoyed very much every meal , from Thai to Western, it was really over the top. Not to forget the best breakfast experience, where you could enjoy home made jams, great danish and pastry, awesome french toast, pancakes, home made granola bars, and best egg white frittata ever. I could go on for a long time with all the delicacies and great food Chef Alex Gares treated us with.

The hotel offers a very nice pool, in order to compensate for the sort of inexistent beach, good gym and lot of outdoor space to relax and walk. They offer lots of activities and excursions. We decided to explore the nearby islands with a private boat and it was a really nice experience. My friends decided to use the Spa and booked massage, they said it was one of the best treatments they ever had.

Overall I think this place is a great retreat for 3 days and I would recommend this place to anyone who appreciates nature, food and relax.

Again I would like to send a special note to Chef Alex Gares for making this a memorable stay!

Dear Alkatrunk,

Thank you so much for taking your time to write such a detailed review about our Reserve. We are very proud of our unique and beautiful villas with their incredible sea view. The design and the atmosphere of the Reserve invites one to immerse in the peace and beauty of the nature. We are happy to know that you compare our resort with a oasis due to its hidden location.
Patty is one of our great stars amongst the butlers and her genuine care is highly appreciated by our guests. Your review put a big smile on her face and I would like to thank you for this.
The Chef Alex is our big asset and we feel extremely lucky to have him amongst us. The food that he is creating together with his team is beyond expectations of our guests and most of them are blown away with our restaurant experience.
The SPA is also one of the highlights of our property and its treatments are just from another world.

We will definitely pass this message to our beloved Chef Alex and we are looking forward welcoming you back at our property.

This is a wonderful hotel. Not only was our villa sumptuous - with the biggest, most comfortable bed we have ever slept in - but the service was workd class. We had some friends joining us for a 50th birthday at short notice and the F and B team could not have been more accomodating and helpful. Thoroughly recommended.

We stayed at Phulay Bay a few nights during our vacation at Krabi.

As the resort was full, we couldn't get a two bedroom pool villa for our family of 4, but the staff very kindly brought an extra bed for us into a one bedroom villa so in effect we had a 4x2 meter bed for the four of us. For 2 adults and 2 kids the one bedroom villa doesn't really offer any 'alone time' if this is important to your family.

The first villa we had was a slight dissapointment as the pool was very small and also we had an issue with a frozen-up aircon unit. The cleaning staff found the room to be unusually warm while we were having our dinner but our butler Beau (she is a true gem among personal butlers, by the way!) and the engineers worked hard for a few hours to fix the problem. In the end the room cooled down and we were finally able to get to sleep. Yes we could have done without the hassle, but let's face it: these things happen and if you travel enough it's bound to hit you eventually. No big deal.

On the second day we got another villa with much larger pool and we were happy campers ever since!

The food in the resort is very good! I'd say well above average. And also we got a very special treat by the unbelievably nice Spanish chef (unfortunately I cannot rememeber the gentlemans name) who treated our kids to a true 'chef's table experience'. This was actually the first time ever.
I kinda told the staff that it's a shame the kids menu seems to be always the same, no matter where we go. (You know, spaghetti bolognese, hamburger etc...) And the next thing we know, there is the duty chef chatting away at our table asking what he could cook for our kids, anything they wanted! This was such a nice gesture and we can't thank the staff enough for making this happen! :o)

The resort was fully booked but never felt crowded. In fact, the very large pool area seemed almost empty at all times.

The kids activities were a nice touch, but the 'kids club' in the basement of the reception building was dissapointing and only open if booked in advance.

They really make a great effort at the Phulay Bay. The management came to greet us on our first day and seemed to be readily available at all times. Everything just basically ran smoothy - apart from the slight glitch with the aircon, that is :o)

This was a very nice experience, and I would recommend this place if you want to completely relax while in Krabi.

Oh, one more thing. The beach is not usable, but they will take you to another beach by car if you want. You can also just stroll to the next resort area where the beach is, well, not great but at least you can dip your toes in.

I thought long and hard if I shoud rate this resort 4 or 5 stars, but in the end if the resort is on the beach and you charge premium for the stay, then the beach should be at least swimmable for a 5 start review from me. Sorry.

Room Tip: If you prefer a large pool with your villa, ask for one in advance.

Dear Tero H,

Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a detailed review in Tripadvisor.
Without constructive feedback from our guests such as yourself, it is not possible for our property to measure the quality of the services provided.
We take great pride in the level of service and attention to detail that we are able to provide our guests, and when their expectations are not met, we have failed in our primary endeavor to ensure both you and future guests receive the service expected of us. I am very disappointed to learn you had issues with the AC system in your villa the first evening. Thank you for your kind understanding as from time to time maintenance issues arise and please accept my sincere apologies for this.

I am happy to hear that you appreciate the efforts of our Chefs to accommodate your kids meal requests. We strongly believe that the kids are our future guests and we want to make sure they are extremely happy at our Reserve and they will come back in the future. We are working now on the Kids area in order to improve the facilities over there and increase the variety of kids activities.
Our beach is a little bit rocky and this is the reason why we organize daily complimentary long tail boat shuttles to Hong Island for our guests to enjoy the beautiful beach and landscape.

We do hope to welcome you back in a near future together with your wonderful family.

Warmest regards,

Liliana Shkepu
