Don't get me wrong - I don't mean the mistake was Tredennis - quite the opposite! We had originally booked to return to a cottage near Delabole which we rented last year and loved. Unfortunately my husband made a little, tiny, tiny mistake and booked the wrong week - we were supposed to be getting married on the 18th and the rental period was the week before!! Cue much panic - we found out 6 weeks before - and I even considered camping but didn't think a tent and a wedding dress really went together! There are 7 of us - quite a job to find something in August with only a few weeks to go!
Looking that evening and we came across Tredennis which, by some miracle, hadn't been booked for the week we needed! We immediately booked and held our breath until we had confirmation from the owner! The location couldn't have been more perfect as our wedding dinner was being held in the Mill House Inn in Trebarwith which is only a 5 minute drive from the house.
The house was just about large enough for 3 teenage boys, two nearly teenage girls and the bride and groom! The lounge has now been knocked into one room and gave us the MOST beautiful views of our favourite beach in Cornwall. It was so perfect as we had planned on having champagne on the beach and being in Tredennis meant we could walk down the rocks to the beach (although I got some very strange looks still being in my wedding dress!). It was just about as perfect as we had hoped for. The sunsets were amazing and being next door to the Port William was a bonus. They were great when we ran out of butter on the last morning and I gave them the wedding flowers to decorate the bar as we couldn't carry them home. The bed in the master bedroom is the BEST bed I've slept in (for a rental cottage) EVER! It was lovely and the bedroom was a good size, looking out to the sea. The other double was also a good size and the other two were OK. No wardrobe in the smallest room but no big deal - teenage boys don't hang up clothes do they :o)
Downsides - the house is up a hill and there are a lot of fairly steep steps to get to it. You can walk up a slope at the back of the house instead if you need to. The garden is steep with no wall and a drop to the road - keep an idea on children. The road is a single track which gets busy with traffic to the Port William so if you are in a rush to get somewhere, bear that in mind. There is parking for two cars which is great as it's not cheap to park in either of the 2 car parks at Trebarwith. There is NO phone signal at Trebarwith but there is Wifi in the house. The windows were very, very dirty so my husband decided to clean them the day before the wedding as we were having family back for drinks/nibbles after our wedding dinner. The electricity is a £1 coin meter so take a few. The meter shows you when you are close to running out but with teenagers (and all their chargers) we got through about £10 on electricity - we did cook a couple of times during the week and obviously had breakfast. Although it says there is Sky in the house it's only the 'normal' channels and it's not Sky+ so no pausing, etc. Not that we watched a huge amount of TV but with the kids......!! We were slightly disappointed - at the cottage we had last year there was a welcoming bottle of wine and a note from the owner (or probably the housekeeper) but there wasn't one here - despite it being more expensive and they knew we were getting married. But I guess I'm just being picky!
All in all, we couldn't have been happier with the best mistake we've every made!! Recommended (but you might be fighting us for it next year)!
