A Pleasant Stay

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 28 Sept 2015
Asahikawa Toyo Hotel is our next stay after our visit of Daisetsuzan National Park. The hotel itself is modern but a bit old. Overall, the experience with this hotel was pleasant.

Location: It is about an hour drive from Daisetsuzan National Park. Asahikawa Ramen Village is about 10 minutes drive from this hotel.

Check-in and -out: Efficient. Both processes were done in about 5 minutes.

Room: Japanese standard where the room and the bathroom are small in size. Cleanliness is acceptable. There is a convenience shop located at the ground floor just next to the hotel. Vending machines also available in different levels of the hotel.

Wifi: No in-room Wifi provided.

Staff: Staff are friendly and efficient. They are with limited proficiency in English. Simple communication in English is not a problem for them.

Parking: Hotel parking is a bit distance from the hotel. You may unload your luggages at the hotel entrance first before heading to park your car there. Otherwise, you are to carry those to the hotel.

The hotel was kind of old but the rooms were clean. The location was pretty good with many restaurants near by. It's a long walking distance from the train station, and we took a taxi because we had lots of luggages. There are two very outstanding points about this place. One is that the breakfast was really good. There were a variety of choices, Japanese and Western. We all enjoyed it very much. The other one is that the airport bus stops right in front of the lobby. Since the bus usually arrives on time, we could just sit in the lobby until the time comes. The most attractive benefit of taking the bus at the hotel door was that it was two or three bus stops ahead of the train station stop, so we could easily find our seats, no need for reaching the train station and no need of waiting in a looooooong line at the station.

The room was spacious enough for the 3 of us. We stayed here about a week and a half while we went skiin around the area. The staff were helpful and could book transport and lift tickets for us. Not too far of a walk to the train station (15 min). And there's a little sacomart on the main floor. Nearby are a wide selection of restaurants and the shopping street is the next block over.

We staid here in Second week of June, with an infant and it was great to get a cot. The only hotel that gave us one. Big brownie pounts there. Room was spacious and deor good. The littl play area down stairs was nice and the car park not far. Would stay here again. No problem. Wifi would be nice but wired internet worked just fine.

Was a little far from restaurants though.

Room tip: Stay in the renovated area if possible.

We spent three nights in this hotel in July of 2013. When I first walked into the room, I liked how spacious it was compared to the last hotel we were in at Kushiro. But then I soon felt the room to be cooler than the outside but not cool enough even when I turned the a/c's fan setting up to max. Unfortunately, the room only had fan setting but not temperature settings. With my very limited Japanese and the staff's limited English, they were able to figure out what I wanted and moved us to another wing of the hotel where the a/c was working much better. Unfortunately, the room was very small. They were able to move us to yet another slightly larger room for the remaining two evenings. Overall, it was acceptable but I would have liked to stay at the original larger room but with proper air-conditioning. But the staff were superb throughout our stay there.

Room tip: If you like the temperature to your room to be toward the colder side, ask for the newly renovated rooms even though they are smaller.

An old building though we already had the "renovated wing", only 1 small lift to serve all floors. Hotel was a bit dated when compared to a slightly more modern-looking one across the road. Room and toilet were small as Japanese norm with simple furniture. Staff is friendly and helpful. A bit over priced and no mention of onsen facility. Be aware that only 1 or 2 ramen shops opened till late, mostly closed at 7:00 or 8:00 pm
