The Residenz is beautiful and evidences its membership in the Relais and Chateaux Organization in every detailed way. The rooms are somewhat dated but look beyond and appreciate the old world elegance and charm. The staff is stellar, and accommodated our every need, for example, the room we were originally assigned had a staircase which could not be easily managed because of a knee injury - They quickly and graciously found us a new room in a matter of minutes. The dining experience both for dinner and breakfast is superb and under the direction of 2 Michelin star Chef Heinz Winkler himself.

We have booked for 3 nights in the Residenz Heinz Winkler and also arranged some excellent dinner. Breakfast service wasn't as great as dinner. The rooms are roomy and very homy decorated. The staff is friendly and attentive.

An hour's drive away from Munich and one is in a holiday scenery right away. My hubby and I made the right decision to treat ourselves to a wonderful dinner at this lovely place while spending the night in their beautiful hotel so that we could enjoy the wine with our gourmet meal. We love the hotel (our second time around) and each room seems different from the other. The service is surely great; there is a personal welcome when one arrives and also an escort to the room and the staff are friendly and attentive. Our bed was turned as we got back from dinner and the drapes were drawn and we have always slept soundly in this place. The bath always has a separate tub and shower with a bidet. Dinner is great. We choose to come here because of the wonderful dining experience combined with a subdued elegance which isn't stiff. There is no doubt that the food is the biggest attraction and this is dining at its best. Breakfast may be buffet style but one is still served the choice of hot drink and one's individual wish of how one wants to have his/her eggs prepared. The only thing we thought fell short was replenishing their bubbly during breakfast. By the time we got to the buffet, all was gone.

Room Tip: The Junior Suite is gorgeous! But there is another suite with a view of the mountains.

Excellent
The food is superb: breakfast and dinners. We were not there for lunches.
Mr and Mrs W. are caring about their guests.
Our room was comfy. We had a duplex. The bathroom looked brand new. We enjoyed the direct access to the garden with our lounge chairs.
The place is quiet so you can rest after an excursion day visiting the castles built by Ludwig of Bavaria.

The place is extraordinary and the owners are very dedicated to taking care of their guest. Not to mention the two stars Michelin restaurant with its exquisite cuisine.
We really had a wonderful new year's eve at the Rezidenz with great fireworks and a classical music concert in the village church nearby...What was amazing as well is that the kitchen is opened to the guests at 1:30 am with an extraodinary buffet of bites (all this after an eight course gala dinner!!!)
Aschau is also an hour drive from Munich and Salzburg (Austria) which makes it an ideal spot for tourism in Bavaria.
PS: the spa should definitely be improved and is not up the the hotel's standard...
