Damnoni Paradise looks like the way Greek hotels used to be around the early 70's and in many ways - like another reviewer said - it does feel as if time has stood still. And for me this is a good thing. I'd much rather stay in a hotel that was built and designed with a certain plan and vision way back when, and has retained a sort of vintage, old-timey charm, than a nondescript, boxy room that has been hastily built, randomly decorated and overly priced - the typical 'room-to-rent' that plagues the Greek islands. In Damnoni Paradise you won't find a state of the art, just renovated room, or cute bathroom amenities, but an honest, charming and quite good value family-run hotel.
Its major attraction is definitely the beautiful, lush and shady garden. Everywhere you look there are flowers and shady trees and green that feels like an oasis in the heat of the Greek summer. If you have young children they will love the little playground and they will roam free in this beautiful, sweet-smelling garden, safe from cars and traffic. If not, you can relax with your book on a hammock in the shade and listen to the cicadas - when you're not visiting one of the wonderful beaches of South Rethymno.
The location is very quiet, about 400-500m from Damnoni beach (where you'll find tavernas) and a couple of kilometers from Plakias, where you'll find everything you need.
We had a double room that accommodated a third bed comfortably. No TV in our room (and we didn't miss it at all). There are rooms with kitchenettes if you like to prepare meals. All the rooms have AC, a fridge, a balcony (or a sort of patio), and you can have breakfast with an extra charge. I loved that all the windows had screens that kept the mosquitoes and flies away, a little detail that goes a long way. Linens and towels were changed every 2 days, surely I'd prefer daily service, but considering the price I was paying this didn't really bother me. We enjoyed our stay at Damnoni Paradise, I would come back to this hotel and recommend it to friends.

We briefly stopped here and had a lovely lunch at a nearby Taverne. Nice looking place with lovely gardens and beach. We didn't stay here but came across it during one of our car trips to the south of the island.

We visited Plakias first time last year (July 2013) and decided to stay at damnoni paradise. Very nice place with an amazing garden & typical Greek rooms! Maria is a very kind and nice girl and her father too. we had breakfast everyday (which was very good and enough for 4+1 child!) I can recommend it especially because via very near to the beach!

A 'different' type of place. A large country house, where time stood still. Amidst a lovely garden, almost a park. Large trees providing shade. Big lawm, so kids can play.. Also a small playground. Agree with review ' vero paradiso'. Close to nice beaches.
