“Very nice museum”

The Sharpsteen Museum is small - but well worth a visit when you are in Calistoga. I've always been fascinated with Sam Brannan's history in San Francisco and, thanks to the museum, discovered that he also had an impactful association with the Calistoga area. Add in some Mark Twain history and Sharpsteen's Disney background, and the museum is both entertaining and informative.

Very nicely laid out with a wonderful staff - well worth 30-45 minutes of your time!

While looking for a restaurant for lunch, my husband and I discovered this museum! What a find! The museum is clean, well-maintained, and tells the story about how the northern Napa Valley/ Calistoga area came into being. The entire exhibit is well done, clearly laid out, and explains the history of the Calistoga area. There is a fabulous diorama showing what once was. There is a donation box for admission fees.

Absolutely well done. And apparently, some of the exhibits within the museum change periodically. I’d return again. A great stop!

I visited Calistoga for my birthday and decided to go for a walk during a break in the rain and came across the Sharpsteen Museum. I entered and met volunteer/docent Emma Mazzola who gave me a brief tour. I learned a great deal about Disney animator Ben Sharpsteen, Sam Brannan, and the history of Calistoga from Emma's comments and the outstanding exhibits. I particularly enjoyed the Sam Brannan Resort Cottage that you can enter from the Museum. This is a must see when visiting Calistoga.

When traveling in a small town, I always try to find the local museum. This is a local gem. The docents are very informative and welcoming. I actually saw an Oscar, it was behind glass, but a real Oscar. Ben Sharpsteen was an award-winning animator, director and producer for Walt Disney Studios. Naturally, there are a lot of items reflecting his career. But this museum is more than that. The exhibits are very informative. There's a cooking pot from the Donner Party, donated by the family of one of the survivors. The detail in the dioramas is amazing. Take your time walking around the exhibits so you don't miss anything.

Quite a good museum. Excellent displays of natural history, and the history of Napa Valley. Sharpsteen was an illustrator working with Disney. Some great displays.
