5th St Steak House has been hyped as the best in Chico. I disagree very much.
The ambience was definitely lacking. Overcrowded and very noisy. My husband and I went there for our 32 year anniversary. My husband made the reservation, and before he could request a quite booth, the hostess?ended the call. As a result we were given the booth directly behind the hostesss desk and the front door. Needless to say, we had to almost shout to hear each other over all the commotion.
Your website said Dressy, but you don't hold to that. Levi's, baseball caps, etc. I don't call that Dressy. I suggest you just say "Casual, we don't care, as long as you can spend lots of money!"
Now, to the food. Prawn cocktail 4 stars, 6 oz. Fillet, 4 stars, tender, moist, but a little bit cool. Spinach saute, way too well done, too much balsamic vinegar? Horseradish cream sauce very good. Garlic mashed potatoes tasted like a boxed mix. Rib eye,1 star, 1/3rd of it was fat, and it was very thin. It was very tender, but at that price we expected a better steak. My husband said he's gotten a steak at Denny's just as good and for a lot less.
Very dissatisfied, and would not recommend as the best Steak House.
Way over hyped and over priced.

you cannot go wrong at the 5th street.steaks are beyond superb,we arrived at about 7 on a Tuesday eve, and had to do a 45 min wait ,not what we wanted ,but every night is packed , (GET RESERVATIONS, A MUST ) which we did not do.as we waited ,we ordered calamari and it was the absolute best i ever had ,by far .once seated the new York steak ,salmon, and lobster were beyond wonderful ,yes prices are a little to steep .but everything on our plates was awesome ,,ZERO COMPLAINTS, not what i ordered ,but i think the wine is quite overpriced, they must make a big profit of that stuff

One of the most expensive places to eat in Chico. I have had a meal that was extremely good and also had a meal that was pretty mediocre. Service is good but the venue is LOUD. It's not quiet and intimate dining. You can eat outside where it's quieter but it is over 100 degrees many (many!) days in the summer which makes outside dining at those times not at all attractive. While, as I said, it is one of the most expensive places in town you can eat there without dressing up fancy. In the summer when it's hot, hot, hot you will find people in nice shorts, Birkenstock sandals, and a Tommy Bahama shirt. Nobody likes to dress up when it's crazy hot. (Not only is it always hot during the summer we usually get at least a week of 110 degree plus weather.)

We started with warm French bread and butter, then, a fresh organic spinach salad with cheese sprinkles and candied nuts. We also had prime rib with garlic butter mashed potatoes. The cabernet tasted perfect with the meal. For dessert we had a raspberry sorbet. Everything was delicious. The service was fast and attentive.

We really enjoyed 5th street, they had live music playing. We ardered the calamari it was pretty good. The spinach salad was great, the 12 oz fillet delicious and the mushrooms and asparagus cooked perfectly. The service was good and atmosphere was festive. We Reccomend it highly
