Let's get one thing straight right from the start. St Lucia is an island with two very different characteristics. The West coast (Caribbean) is where the vast majority of visitors choose to stay; it's where you find cruise ships and exclusive club hotels, lovely beaches and entertainment galore. The East coast (Atlantic) is rugged and has a real wild feel to it; you don't meet many tourist here unless that is you are observing wildlife and especially birds. Fox Grove Inn is on this Eastern side of the island. Just half an hour from the airport (British Airways, Virgin Atlantic etc). Set of a hillside the front six bedrooms look out over forest to the sea, on a windy day you can see Atlantic breakers crashing into the rocks. If you are reading this report I don't really need to speak about wonderful friendly hosts, fantastic food and a level of service that few hotels could match; it's all been said. The gardens are a joy, I sat under a tree one afternoon photographing humming birds while other guests were swimming in the lovely clean pool. We were there on a half board basis and all meals were taken outside on the veranda. Don't miss out on the grilled King fish, or even better a smoked Kingfish salad and it would be an unforgivable sin not to have at least couple of Franz's chocolate mousse creations; simply divine.
Ester and Franz are the owners of Fox Grove Inn and they are completely hands on, and totally dedicated to their guests. Field trips to observe St Lucia's flora and fauna are easily arranged (see separate report) and its only a short walk to the botanical gardens. If it's glitz and glamour that you seek-go west, if however you just want to be surrounded by generous care and wonderful food then Fox Grove Inn is for you.

Room Tip: Upstairs rooms at the front have balconies and great views. Room 1 was great.

a great little hotel set up in the hills above Praslin Bay. Excellent pool. Room no 1 was a corner room. Big bed. Good shower and lovely view from the balcony. Its not luxurious but very comfortable and friendly. The owners, Esther and Franck ( hope I've got that right!) were so helpful and always had time to chat. . A good place for birdwatchers. Fantastic garden and nice walks around the area.
Very nice breakfast and the lunches and dinners were very good. I don't think you could find a better place on this coast. Also a good stop for lunch on the way back to the airport if you have transport

Room Tip: room on the corner with balcony

We were 4 couples renting a beautiful villa not far from the fox grove inn,we had chef Franz come and cook for us at our house one night and also went to his wonderful restaurant. All we can say is fantastic! Chef Franz is one of the most interesting, worldly and knowledgeable people that you could ever hope to spend a bit of time with and his food and staff are top notch also. Do yourself a favour and stop at the fox grove you will not regret it! Garlic soup and the coquille st Jacques were two of our favourites and the fish dishes and steaks are second to none! And I will add that his whiskey and rum collection is quite a treat also! Well done chef Franz and all of you at the fox grove inn see you next year!

Room Tip: Great views

This is the place to stay if you want a quiet, restful vacation, with beautiful views, wonderful hosts, and excellent, gourmet food. We stayed in the 2 bedroom apartment, so were able to cook some meals, but the food prepared by Franz was so excellent, we kept going to the dining room. Franz even gave one of us a mini-cooking lesson for his signature dish, garlic soup. Esther was lovely, helpful, friendly, accommodating, as were all of their staff. The inn is convenient to the airport, and an easy drive to both ends of the island.

We were a family of 7 adults leaving St Lucia on Christmas Day so having to vacate our rental house in the morning with a flight out in the evening. We needed somewhere to have lunch together and hang out for a few hours and the Fox Grove Inn provided just that. The manager of our rental property arranged for Esther and Franz to open their restaurant specially for us on Christmas Day to serve us lunch - this was very kind of them and we were given a warm welcome. The food was excellent, the service was friendly and the environment was beautiful - stunning views to the ocean and forest. After lunch we lazed by their pool until it was time to go. It was a great experience for us all!
