Description: Set in an 1880's period barn in historic Columbia, CA, our focus is in providing both an education in the Art of Afternoon Tea and enhancing a visitor's experience of Columbia while offering a pleasant atmosphere and a modicum of culture to a gold mining town. Beautiful Columbia, with Main Street looking north from the Wells Fargo Building. Columbia Kate's is just up the street and right on State Street, one block over to Columbia Street.

This little gem on the side street in Columbia State Park is worth a visit if you love scones, tea, their sandwiches on a croissant, or their own white bread, and fabulous desserts. Yum. If you don't order their Pear Pecan Praline Pie, you're missing a unique dessert. They have soup, salads, sandwiches, quiche, chicken pot pie, and a wonderful dessert menu. It's all made there, fresh daily, or at their own bakery across the corner. You'll be served in a historic little building dining room, or an enclosed patio, plus in good weather, you may eat outdoors. This is a don't miss adventure.

Suggest you try the apricot Iced Tea! We ate in the garden- lovely! My turkey sandwich was Goodlicious (a term coined by our baby daughter years ago! Fruit served with it included melon, blueberries, raspberries, grapes, melon, etc.! The service was fantast and Kate came out to visit with us! She is an owner who really cares about her businesses - don't miss the scones or cinnamon buns at her nearby bakery and shop- Kate's Boutique is totally charming. Wait until you see her buttons!!!

Kate's is a charming little tea house in Columbia. It's 'off the beaten path' but easy to find. Just go a block off the main street an dit's there on the corner. She also has other stores to visit as well. Don't miss any of them!

We had lunch here on a Monday and though the wait was long, the food and tea were delicious. The salad had greens, kale, strawberries, blueberries, cheese and pecans with strawberry vinaigrette dressing. Fabulous flavors. The quiche was also very good. Huge selection of hot or cold teas to choose from, some special blends by the owner. The outside garden was pleasant, shady, and had some interesting tea decorations on the walls and tables. This is a popular place so try to go early if your schedule allows to avoid the crowd.

Last year we had some very yummy cinnamon rolls from Kate's Bakery (across the street from Kate's Teahouse). If I remember correctly, they have a picnic table or two in the shade outside but very little seating, if any, inside. We're going to Columbia again this year and want to make the bakery one of our stops again. My mouth is watering just thinking about those cinnamon rolls!
