“Hoem from Home”
Reviewed 4 October 2014 for a stay in September 2014

A wonderful place to stay and relax which really does feel like home being well furnished and decorated with lots of pictures on the walls, books and other home comforts. Chris & Katherine are the ideal hosts offering as much or as little help and assistance as you want and happy to take their time with trips on their boat 'Kalliope' and enjoying the fabulous scenery with walks on the Kalderimi paths with whose renovation they are heavily involved.
All in all thoroughly recommended without reservation.

“Wonderful cottage, wonderful hosts, wonderful part of Greece”

We spent two wonderful weeks in Olive Store Cottage. The house is in a beautiful setting with sea views. The beautifully restored cottage is well-equipped and comfortable and provides a very relaxing environment. We loved having all our meals in the shaded patio area.

Chris and Kathryn are perfect hosts. We felt we gained from them a great understanding of the area and benefitted from taking part, at their invitation, in a couple of local events with the delight of meeting a number of their Greek friends. It's important to say though that this was an option that, like a number of other guests, we chose to take up. It would have been no problem to have a quiet holiday with less local involvement. The cottage is remote enough (though only 10 minutes from the village) to allow this.

We went on a number of walks of varying lengths along kalderimi, the old donkey paths which Chris and Kathryn help restore through the Friends of Kalderimi group.

Olive Store Cottage offers a perfect environment to to explore this little-known area of Pelion in mainland Greece. We found previous guests' reviews helpful in deciding to visit.

Thanks so much to Chris and Kathryn for being such great hosts and thanks again for taking us out sailing in Kaliope.

This was our second visit to the cottage although we know the surrounding area very well. We were delighted with the changes the owners have made to the house in the intervening period - the addition of the upstairs bathroom have made it even easier to accommodate growing children and the outside shower was enjoyed by all members of the family. Once again we had a relaxing holiday aided by the thoughtful welcome provisions provided for our arrival and the extensive DVD and book library to while away any downtime away from local beaches or tavernas. We particularly appreciated the provision of Wifi facilities at the 'Internet cafe' adjoining the owners house a short distance from the cottage which enabled us to keep in touch with the 'outside world' when we needed to. We will be booking again as soon as we can as the cottage is a haven of tranquility in a delightful part of Greece.

Thank you for your review. It is always great for us to welcome back returning guests and we are delighted you had an enjoyable and relaxing holiday. Generally our guests from the UK fly to Greece but it is interesting that you travel here by car and your stay with us is the final destination of a European road trip. What an adventure! We are happy to give visitors advice on planning their own road trips to Olive Store Cottage. We hope to see you here again next year. Best wishes, Chris and Kathryn

“Fantastic house, natural beauty, great hospitality and insight into local community”

The south Pelion and Platanias area is Greece with a difference - all the sun and sea, but with addition of cool forests, running water, and an escape from the crush of the islands. You can go walking, as well as swimming The beaches are excellent (and not too far), and you can choose between a taverna in a hillside village, or dinner on the beach. Chris and Kathryn are deeply embedded in the local community, and have a thousand tips for where to go and what to see, and can take you out in their small yacht. Olive Stone cottage itself is also excellent - traditional stone walls, shade, even an outside shower. You won't find better than this.

“A ravishing return to Randi!”

This was our second trip to the Olive Store cottage and we have already booked our third! Our last trip was in the autumn, so it was lovely to return in the height of summer (late June/early July) and experience the long, light, balmy evenings. Surprisingly the beaches were not crowded at all, as we had feared, but still quiet and peaceful - ranging from stunning, sandy Mikros beach in Platanias to small and sweetly shallow Katiorgis bay. Slightly further afield, we also loved Potistika beach - this was wilder and windswept with rocks and cliffs tumbling into the sea, almost resembling a sunny Cornish cove, but by contrast, at the wider end of the beach offering jaunty beach umbrellas and the fabulously chic Climax beach bar. A shared bottle of Prosecco sitting in stylish splendor overlooking the beach was a definite highlight of the holiday!
Other fun aspects of our trip this time...... driving up to the east coast to visit Tsagarada in the mountains, a cool and leafy village providing an enjoyable contrast to the beaches......having lunch at Damouchari, the rocky cove where the Dancing Queen scene from Mamma Mia was filmed.......finding a deserted, white sand beach to swim and picnic on, having been magicaly transported there by Kaliope, Chris and Kathryn;s pretty little sailing boat.....walking the newly-cleared kalderimi from the Olive Store to Promiri, thankfully mostly in shady comfort, and finishing up with a mezze lunch in Stafi's (not sure if spelling is correct!) taverna......joining the locals on a day tripper boat to visit unspoiled Alonissos and trendy Skopelos town.........delicious pizza at the Hotel Kyma on the harbourfront at Platanias......I could go on and on and on......
Suffice to say once again a fabulous combination of great accommodation; wonderful villages to explore; peaceful beaches; delicious meals out; superb value for money and above all, thoughtful and friendly hosts who make you feel like friends and part of the community of the Pelion!
See you again soon..................

Thank you for this great review of your second visit to Olive Store Cottage. Nothing gives us more pleasure than welcoming back guests who make regular visits, it means they love this place as much as we do. As you have described there is a great deal to do in Pelion and perhaps you should write a guide book! We look forward to seeing you here again soon. Best wishes Chris and Kathryn
