Kathryn and Chris are attentive hosts, we appreciated all their help and generosity. Ignore the psychedelic photo, Olive Store Cottage is a sensitively restored house in a beautiful rural location with sea views. Nearby Platania has a fine beach and good tavernas, and the delightful beaches and villages of south Pelion are all within easy reach. Wherever we went there seemed to be live music and dancing in the village squares. This is 'real' Greece - it takes a while to get here but it's worth the trip and we'll be back again.
Just loved our stay at Olive Store Cottage. An absolute perfect ‘get away from it all’ stay in Paradise. The cottage is spotlessly clean and very spacious; being rustic and utterly charming. Although we stayed as a couple there is ample room for families and/or four adults (plus a couple of kids should you be willing to share bedrooms).
Without a doubt, the outdoor shower made our week! It’s the simplest of things that bring the greatest pleasures, and you can’t beat showering with the sunshine beating down on you. You get total privacy at the cottage, surrounded by three acres of olive trees and countryside, which is wonderful if you’re looking for peace and relaxation.
Chris and Kathryn’s knowledge of the region enhances your stay; brilliant hosts, who are on hand when you need them, but equally they intuitively know when you want to be left to enjoy the tranquillity of their cottage. They will give generously of their time, and take you out sailing in their boat, should you so desire.
WiFi is available at the owners’ property should you need it, but to be quite honest it was rather refreshing to be ‘switched off’ for a week! And that’s from someone who is always ‘connected’ to WiFi!!
Platanias is a hidden gem of a village, with great tavernas right on the seafront, and only a five-minute drive from the cottage. We ate in the village every night of our stay, enjoying fresh fish and vegetables (with meat options for those who prefer meat). Remember to ask for the local Greek wines in half litre (or litre) jugs, which is excellent value for money. Red wine is served from the fridge, which is perfect in hot weather. We visited mid-June and everywhere was very quiet, so we had our pick of everything. Lucky us! If you want it frenetic, then visit during July and August
Fantastic walks are right on your cottage doorstep, literally. No need to take the car out if you don’t want.
Speaking of cars. If you want to get the most out of your stay you will need a car to explore this region. It took us five hours to drive from Thessaloniki (excluding rest stops), and Chris/Kathryn’s driving instructions proved invaluable (and spot on) as Sally SatNav didn’t recognise our destination. Arriving during daylight hours is also preferable if making your first visit to the area.
If you plan on dining in the cottage then you are advised to bring at least some provisions with you – there is a Lidl about an hour’s drive away, so at Chris/Kathryn’s suggestion we did stock up prior to arrival. Platanias has a butcher’s and bakery shop, as well as other basic provisions being catered for. There’s even a mobile vegetable seller that does the rounds regularly.
In summary: Perfect!
We spent a week here at the start of a 3 week holiday around mainland Greece and wish we could have stayed longer. Olive Store Cottage is beautiful with so many added extras that make your stay extra special. We loved the outdoor shower!! Chris and Katherine are excellent hosts, we all enjoyed spending time on their sailing boat but Chris spent extra time with one of our sons taking him sailing in his dinghy. Our many highlights included seeing bats close up in secluded caves, Micro beach with it's lovely little taverna and an evening at a local village enjoying Greek music. The Pelion is a beautiful and unspoilt region of Greece and we really valued tho local knowledge that Chris and Katherine were able to share with us. We left feeling relaxed and refreshed but also that we had made new friends and we would love to return one day (soon!!)

Both Mation and I had a fabulous 10 days at the cottage and surrounding hills, ports, beaches and walks.
Beautiful beaches and tavernas on ones door step. Our host, Chris and Kathryn were wonderful ! Giving us so much information of the area, and things to do, or places visit.
Chris and Kathryn were very generous , they took us out on their yacht "kaliope" on two occasions and offered us other water sport toys.
We loved the tranquility of the shabby-chic cottage with an amazing outdoor shower.!
We are planning to return next year.
Thank you, Chris and Kathryn for a wonderful time !

PS. Believe me the long drive we did, was worth it.! And rest assured ! We saw no signs of any migrants. The Greeks are kind and friendly..!
Olive store cottage
Thank you once again to Chris and Kathryn for another a wonderful week at Olive Store Cottage. This time visiting with three girlfriends to enjoy the walking, talking and wild flowers. Highlights of the week were body balance work outs with Nicole on the terrace. Looking out at the wonderful views across Platania Bay whilst trying to find my inner goddess and remain upright was an experience I will never forget. Watching the dolphins playing across the bow wake from Kaliope, being welcomed into a 70th birthday party and joining in with the singing, the best stuffed vine leaves ever at the taverna in Promyri, lazy breakfasts on the terrace, fantastic walks along the Kalderimis and some very competitive scrabble.
The cottage was scrupulously clean, well equipped and Chris and Kathryn so kind and helpful. A truly wonderful holiday.
We will be back
