It's summer and we needed a special place to celebrate some family birthdays!- We made a RSVP at The Salt Creek Grille for an early Saturday evening dinner. Lucky to get in as two wedding receptions were taking place. The lush grounds leading into the restaurant are very pretty They offer valet parking or nearby free parking in the parking lot- so easy.Upon our arrival, the hostess quickly escorted us to our table. The server soon followed and took our drink orders and made some recommendations. The menu was clearly marked with gluten free options as two of our guests follow a gluten free lifestyle. Two of us ordered the fresh catch of the day, halibut. It was $29 and came with vegetables and a starch. The chef prepared it to our requests and even substituted the starch (yummy Yukon Gold mashed potatoes for brown rice). Dessert for the birthday celebrants was complimentary and included a flourless chocolate cake and chocolate sorbet for the gluten free guest. On the way out, we got to enjoy the peekaboo ocean views of Monarch Beach as we walked to our cars. We look forward to going again!

We spent a lovely day driving down the coast to Dana Point Harbor with the intention of having a nice lunch, but everyone else had the same idea, so we couldn't find parking. So we thought of driving a little closer to our home to Salt Creek Grille and we were delighted to call ahead to find there was seating and parking available!

What a great find! I had a huge and delicious fried Chicken salad and hubby enjoyed his entree as well. We had a comfy large booth and excellent, attentive service. That was the best service we have had from a restaurant in the Dana Point area. Forget the harbor, and go directly to Salt Creek!

First time at this establishment. Went to celebrate a new job. Arrived at 12:05 for a brunch reservation. Sat for at least 15 minutes with no attention from staff - not so much as an offer of a glass of water. Went to the hostess stand mentioned that it didn’t appear that we had a waiter. The hostess apologized. We then waited another 5 minutes before anyone showed up at our table. The waiter that was assigned was very sweet and the service excellent following. I believe the waiter may have been named Justin. The food was excellent and the service good after the initial glitch but really no excuse for the initial lack of service. Huevos Rancheros and Mahi Mahi was excellent. Chocolate soufflé was remarkable and the $9 unlimited mimosas were nice too. We will likely give it another try. Hostess needs to get it together.

My husband loves this place for Happy Hour because the menu is so hearty and filling. So filling, in fact, that we never stay for a meal. If you were to categorize food as "guy" or "gal" food, this would definitely come under the "guy" category. Hearty sliders, BBQ ribs, steak tacos, stuffed shrimp that are all good but a bit heavy for me. Though there's a watermelon salad (that we haven't yet tried), I would define a Caesar salad (also offered) as heavy. I'd like to see some light options on the menu -- perhaps some flatbreads. All that being said, the food is good, the wine is generous, and the service is attentive, friendly, and excellent.
