This is the classic southern California surf beach; great for folks who want to sunbathe, people watch, ride boogie boards, walk the beach or the ultimate: SURFING. Plenty of parking (but get here early, because everyone else wants to be here, too). As usual, there is a charge for beach parking. Note: Though California has the highest taxes in every category in the US, there is still a charge for nearly everything. This beach is wide and kept pretty clean. There are rules: no BBQ, no alcohol, no glass. Have a good time.

Easy access despite traffic, gorgeous beach, only bummer is the $15 parking fee. Great restaurants / concessions.

I've been living in Huntington Beach for 20 years and I love the state beach. It is quieter than the city beach areas and there is so much room for picnics, swimming and having fun with large groups. But you can still be alone because the beaches are huge. There are fire pits for bonfires at night and the walking trail is great for bicycling, jogging or walking. The beaches are kept very clean and you will see many volunteers clean them up many weekends. So yes, it is my happy place.

Even over the 4th of July holiday this is a great beach. Major crowds, but everyone was great so it was a great trip.

The beach was very crowded at the time that I went which took away from the view but the water seemed clear and the waves were beautiful as they rolled in. What I didn't like was the fact that I saw a lot of trash in the sand but that could have been because the beach was crowded with so many people. This beach has a pier and several nearby hotels...I even saw a Walmart a few blocks away.
