Food is good but average Americanized Mexican with some really good authentic stuff in the mix too. Great cheese quesadilla for like $6....it's huge with really good Mexican cheese blend if you just want simple to a delicious shrimp diablo with a nice seafood broth to die for....served stew style with tortillas and b n r. We always sit in the back of the cantina so the kids can come and they have live music frequently so it's always a great time. Margaritas are decent enough and the waitresses are great! Another local favorite of ours in Indio.

I had looked up restaurants in Indio that were open late as we were arriving from Orange County. This one fit the bill so we tried it. So sorry we did! The first thing that hit us was the heat - inside! It was still over 100 degrees outside and their air conditioning was out. The waitress explained that it was "working" but just not very efficiently. They had an electric fan in the dining room which helped a little but not much. The furniture was dated - probably still from 1967. The carpet too. We tried to be positive. We ordered margaritas to cool off. They came in plastic glasses (!) and were $6.50 each and that was just for the standard size, not a big one. I ordered the two taco combo and wanted hard shells. The waitress said they only made chicken tacos with hard shells so I said OK. They were mediocre. My husband ordered a chicken tostada. He said it was also mediocre. We ate quickly as we were hot. There are too many good Mexican restaurants around - sorry, but we won't be back.

We wanted an early dinner and saw this Mexican restaurant while driving on Hwy 111 in Indio. As we walked in we saw two ladies sitting at the bar which is directly in front of the entrance. We did not see a single employee anywhere around. We stood there for a few minutes not knowing if we needed to wait to be seated or if we could sit. I walked around the restaurant but did not see anybody. We decided to sit down. Again we waited and waited..... I then saw an employee behind a wall, who was on the phone. She finished and walked to another side of the restaurant. After a few more minutes she finally walked in our direction and proceeded to drop (not place) the menus on the table and said "There you go!" and walked away.
I have never really walked out of many restaurants, but since this is the second time this has happened to us in less than 3 weeks, we decided that we are not going to put up with that kind of service; so we left. We proceeded to go next door which also happens to be another Mexican restaurant (Pueblo Viejo Grill). Read our separate review.

Looks so promising from the outside. Sadly the management let it down by poor, inexperienced staffing. A real shame.

The restaurant is getting very dated, but the sign saying "established in 1967" led us to believe that it would be outstanding food. The chicken in the burrito wasn't shredded, but cubed and all dark meat. Sauce can best be described as tasting like the Chef Boyardee canned spaghetti sauce.
