I came for business, had a glitch and Raj worked with me very well to assist and make arrangements. Raj is very compassionate and caring. The place is nice, older but great view and lake access, docks and fishing. Clean, very friendly staff. Close to great food.

This place is neither a B&B, nor an "inn". It's a set of five old "cottages," each with two or three rooms, clustered around an old parking lot.

The front office is permanently closed; you have to walk next door to the Anchorage Inn for everything: checking in, checking out, issues/problems, etc.

The "dock" is at the end of the trash- and junk-strewn parking lot. It's seen better days.

My room, #11, was beyond sad, it was outright depressing. The front door won't unlock without five minutes of jiggling the key. There are several large burns in the carpet from the clothes iron. The walls are filthy, and there is nothing on them, except the marks and nails from previous mountings. There is a kitchenette . . . but no table, of any kind. The kitchen faucet leaks. The refrigerator ticks so loudly, you have to put the window-mounted air conditioner on to cover the noise. The toilet leaks. The shower knob is so old, you have to essentially choose between scalding and freezing. The only lighting is the kitchen ceiling light and a weak, little lamp next to the bed . . . which has no nightstands.

There is, thank you, a 30-inch flatscreen TV . . . which makes the room bearable.

Avoid this poor little shambles.

I am a nurse who travels to Lakeport for classes at the local hospital every couple of years and have been coming to stay at The Mallard for a decade and a half. It is sweet and quaint BUT needs a TON of work--the previous owners were not able to keep up with all the repairs. I met the new owners (they also own the Anchorage Inn next door) who acquired this property two months ago. Already they are working, upgrading, making changes and trying to improve the premises indoors and out. It is going to take MONTHS before they can get things fixed (paint, light fixtures, floors, furniture-- all to be upgraded. They had a few rooms available and let me choose which one I wanted, also offering a great rate next door which was kind and generous--they were very friendly and personable. But I love this old place with the little cottages and though it isn't fancy, I am thrilled someone has taken over who is managing, involved and doing much needed repairs. It is clean and I had my own little kitchen, quiet with good WIFI and friendly staff. Don't expect much now but I have ever confidence when I return in two years "The Old Girl" will be back looking fresher and younger. All the cottages are different, so it depends on needs and what is available. They offer the pool and spa next door; there is a tri-level dock overlooking the lake. Restaurants steps away if needed. Tip: I always bring my own pillows, these are thin. Rates are reasonable. Non smoking, yay! The owner is very hands-on and appreciates feedback.

Room Tip: 2&3 are dark but quiet. 6 is perfect for me, but there are smaller and larger options.

Needed a place to stay for an extended period of time while moving. Management was great, gave me a better rate and the room (with kitchenette) was good. There are no really good lodging in Lakeport. Everything is a little dated, but the Mallard is my favorite based on charm. Too bad there was a drought and they chose not to fill their hot tub, nor do they have a pool.

The room was small and basic, but everything had been thought out. Beds were very comfortable. The staff is first rate; very friendly and helpful. Great view of the water from the pier. We took the only available room with two beds that night, and it was a bit cramped, with little space for luggage. The wall between the two beds was a little awkward for two friends who like to talk at night and share TV, but this could be a boon for some, and there was a TV for each bed, tho' the placement was not very good for viewing. Price is excellent for what you get.
