Echigo is located on Santa Monica Blvd. near Amherst on the second floor of a standard strip mall in West Los Angeles. There are both surface and underground parking. When you enter, there is a hand written sign that warns you that there are no special rolls, spicy rolls, or other non-sushi/sashimi offerings. No teriyaki, soup or appetizers. Just sushi and sashimi. There is a standard sushi bar with a few tables, nothing fancy. They offer beer, saki and wine, and there is no full bar. It is clear that the treat is the sushi and sashimi. Fresh and simple, and incredibly tasty. We were there with two couples, and our friends had been there on multiple occasions. At their advice, we sat at the sushi bar and allowed the sushi chef to pick our sushi and sashimi, and were glad we did. The crab roll was divine. We tried multiple other offerings, from tuna, eel roll, yellowtail, butterfish, black snapper and halibut. Each offering was better than the next. While the meal was quite expensive, you get what you pay for. Fresh, well prepared and simply presented sushi. We will certainly return.

Echigo is located a few blocks west of the 405 on Santa Monica, which no issues for parking as they boast a spacious underground carpark.

Its more of a traditional Japanese sushi/sashimi restaurant than the usual Californian offering. No fried or grilling etc……just great sushi and even better sashimi with an excellent variety of seafood and fish. All fresh and served without delay and very professional.

There is little wall-art and its certainly without lavish decorations, but if you’re after traditional Japanese preparation of fresh food…….this should be near the top of your list.

It's in a bit of an unlikely location but the quality of the sushi is great - some unusual items on the menu and some daily specials which were all served simply but expertly. Some of the best sushi we've ever had outside Japan. The waitress was friendly and helpful and made our family feel very welcome.

Omakase, omagod! Same day fish, master chef! Go early when it is not crowded for the best experience.

Such amazing sushi! I'd say the quality of the fish is comparable to Sasabune - high end and everything melts in your mouth. Nothing fancy about the ambiance and decor - very unassuming. But I'm rating this place solely based on the good. Hands down one of the best sushi restaurants in LA.
