This modest sized restaurant is located in a too small minimall parking lot in Granada Hills. Fortunately, parking nearby on Chatsworth Street is not too difficult. The décor is rather modern and simple with a definite Persian flair.
I visited as part of a group on a rainy Tuesday and so the restaurant was not too busy and service was friendly and attentive. The wait staff managed to get all the meals out to the thirty members of the group still warm and in a timely manner. I tried the chelo kabob barg (pounded beef fillet) which came with a baked tomato and basmati rice. I opted to upgrade the rice to cherries and rice for $3, which was a great option that I would recommend anyone consider since it was delicious. Many of the dishes come with rice and a tomato and since you get a large portion of rice you will likely be taking some of it home.
All the others in our group seemed to be very pleased with their menu choices that included Greek salad, rack of lamb, rainbow trout, and lamb shank. For dessert, the Persian ice cream and the baklava were very good options. For more details, the restaurant menu is online.
This restaurant is a great value since many of the evening entrees were between $15 and $20. There also are a number of vegetarian items. On the day we attended some of our group brought their own wine for a corkage fee. Also, the restaurant prepares food to go or will deliver orders over $20. So, if you are tired of pizza, this could be a great change for home delivery. Ali Baba is definitely worth checking out for lunch or dinner. None of the menu items were disappointing.
