I was there for a business meeting, the ENTIRE team of staff are nothing but professional and friendly. During my short 1 day stay, I must have personally encountered 10+ people there: Housekeeper, Bellman, Front Desk, Shuttle Driver, Operator, Restaurant server, maintenance .......... EVERYONE is well trained and professional.
It is my opinion that Steve Wynn of the world can always get the money he wants and built a better, nicer hotel in Vegas, but money cannot buy a hotel team with great working culture like this hotel has.
Perhaps the two different drivers' SAME reply to me sums up best of this hotel: When you are working in such an environment like such, it is very easy to be happy coming to work.

Room Tip: Ask for golf course side, top floor

Though an older resort, it is located directly next to the golf course, a definite draw for golfers. The decor of rooms is very nice and modern, but the rather loud noise from the water lines whenever nearby rooms use water are noticeable at night--not awful but seems to indicate the age of the place. It was nice to have a bar and restaurant on-site, and there is also the Spa. The resort is only about 1.5 mi. from Cannery Row, so is a convenient location. Got a very good deal through Priceline, but found the "Resort Fee" of $15/day a sneaky, lame ad-on upon checkout. Wouldn't have been irritated had this been included up-front, just seems lame to learn about when checking out (is some vague verbage in the priceline reservation alluding to such a possible fee). As we were checked in by a computer since nobody was at the desk, we were not told of this on arrival. Anyhow, having enjoyed many stays at various Hyatts, the rather condescending "I am sorry that you did not notice our notification of the Resort Fee" was even more irritating. This, we were told upon checking out, is for two bottled waters, "complementary self-parking", etc. Wow. The sneaky, lame method is really the issue for me, not the amount. Besides, on checking out, it is really too late to do anything but pay this additional fee. Anyhow, sad to spend so much time on this issue, as everything else was great-location, amenties, staff, and service.

This was a decent hotel. It's not as upscale as some of the others in Monterey, but the location is convenient, the rooms are adequate, and even though our room overlooked the freeway, we didn't hear any noise at night. We would stay here again.

Monterey is a cool place but a bit too much of the "let's get the tourist" mentality. Definitely evident at Hyatt Regency.

Pros:
Fridge in the room.
Nice fitness center.
On site sports bar was really good. Reasonable prices and great atmosphere.
Facilities seemed nice but it was too cold to use the pool etc.

Cons:
Charge for wi-fi (but free in the lobby). Bizarre.
Breakfast buffet was like $25. They had a decent coffee shop but staff kept pushing the buffet. Also it was one of those deals where the coffee shop closes at 10:30 AM (Why? Ever been to a Starbucks past 10:30 AM???) and the teenager running the place had the closed sign up at 10:27. Argh!!
Concierge was cold and not overly helpful.
"SPA SPA SPA SPA." That's all we heard everywhere we went. Stop with the hard sell on the spa! Like you're some kinda loser if you don't drop $200 on a couples massage . . .

I'd give the place 3.5 stars but not an option. Gotta drop it to 3 for the wi-fi charge. Sorry Hyatt.

First of, be aware that this hotel has no a/c. We opened the windows and turned on the fan, but all 3 of us were sweating all night long. Not the hotel for someone who is almost 6 months pregnant! Definitely unexpected for Hyatt, and given how hot it was inside that room when it was 60 outside, I can only imagine when the temps really heat up which they often do as has been our experience in Monterey.

The grounds are great and they have a lot of amenities. The staff here is wonderful and parking is free. Oh, and while they charge a resort fee, that does not include wifi, you still have to pay $10 extra per day. Not really sure what the resort fee was for.

Overall, good location and great staff. But if you like your room cool, look elsewhere!
