Morro bay is one of my favorite places. So beautiful and picturesque. The drive is stunning the whole way from Los Angeles. Street fairs. Old boats. Kayaking. All around a feel good place.

Sitting between the spit of land that connects Morro Rock to the mainland and the harbor is an estuary filled with a variety of life. We saw several types of sea birds, sea lions and an otter. Makes for a wonderful place to show kids the wildlife reasonably close.

Visit the Natural History Museum near the golf course for history and information of the area. It is a small, but engaging interactive museum with stunning views of Morro Rock, the estuary and sand spit from inside. Better yet walk a couple minutes to the top of the rock behind the museum for an amazing view of the area. Don't miss the acorn grinding holes the Chumash or local native tribe used on the way.

A wonderful treasure to traverse by kayak or tour boat. An abundance of wildlife is on display including seals, sea lions, sea otters and many species of shorebirds. If you travel by kayak, you should be aware of the tides or you could get stuck in the mud if you are not careful. Also, it can be a lot of work if it is windy, or if you are rowing against the current- still a great way to travel
