This adorable restaurant and bar is the perfect antidote for a long cross country trip. Try all the tacos and sample some of their unique and really creative drinks. The live acoustic guitarist was outstanding too...the one thing that bothered me was the Moroccan interior design. While splendid -- it wasn't Mexican. But it was adorable. :)

Let’s start by clearing up the design issue. This is moorish brought to Spain when the Moors settled in Spain between 750 and 1495 ad. You will see a lot of this type of decoration in Andalucia ( Granada ,Seville, Cordoba)and Morrocco. The question has to be asked why would you use it in Mexican restaurant?
We went there twice during our visit to Newport. On Sunday for lunch it offered a reasonable choice of Mexican dishes. The tamale was excellent.
On Monday we went back for dinner with friends from the area. We were surprised the dinner menu had a few Mexican dishes and now it was good ol’ surf and turf as their anchor. What a change !! Very disappointed. The Mexican theme somehow how got pushed into the background.
The service was fine both times but the lighting in the evening is very dark making it almost impossible to read the menu.

The moment you walk through the door you sende that lively, Mexican atmosphere but in a smart way. The entire room - there are more than one - is sizzeling with atmosphere, people, music and a smell of mexican spicies. Outstanding guacamole, meal was very nice and so were the cocktails. The staff were very serviceminded, fast and with a smile. If you are looking for a scruffy place this is not it. Dress casual smart, not on the cheap side and wheelchairs have a field time getting around, apart from the dim light. I will deffinately come back

I was in awe before we even tasted the chips, Beautiful interior, the bar was amazing. Their menu includes some great sounding steak and fish dishes, interesting appetizers and yes chips and salsa like no others. We had some margaritas, many that were new to us we had 2 rounds of drinks and appetizers. The severs were very helpful explaining the differences in the menu items. We stayed with the more traditional items since we were curious to see how they differed from other Socal Mexican restaurants. We were not disappointed there use of herbs and spices gave the food so many layers of taste it was like eating a 7-course dinner. The children in or family enjoyed there meals but weren't as ambitious to try the many different ways they made some classic items taste. I can't say enough about our server ( a ten of 5 or 6) The made us feel very welcome. we are anxious to try again.
