You can get everything from a vegetarian meal (mediterranean platter) to fries and a yummy gyro. Everything is made to order and the service is friendly. Great for lunch or dinner. Recommend calling ahead if you are in a hurry. The fries are seriously off the hook (even if they aren't Greek).

I always take the Mediterranean platter with no cheese. The hummus can be excellent (lots of tahini), the fallafel are crispy, the eggplant salad is good.

Driving into the bay area we wanted something quick and easy and randomly picked Petra Cafe. The roasted eggplant pita sandwich was such a treat. I've never seen this type of sandwich offered at other restaurants like this. Their fries were hot and crispy. My partner ordered the gyros sandwich and said it was very good too.

This tiny café adjacent to the Orinda Theatre offers freshly made Greek and Mediterranean cuisine. The lamb and beef gyro available for &7.25 for a 7 inch pita or $8.25 for a 9 inch pita is filled with meat, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and tzatziki. The 9 inch is large enough to cut in half to share. Most delicious. The French fries are $2.75 and tasty. They offer souvlaki, spanakopita, dolmades, grilled salmon, salads, moussaka, greek platters, and more. The wait can be long if you don’t call your order in ahead as there is normally only a single cook and one person working the register. Inside there are 3 small tables crowded together. Outside has a few tables and chairs, however I like to get my order to go and eat somewhere in nature.
Food is delicious. A whole rotisserie chicken is $8.95., the same price as the ½ chicken dinner that comes with rice and veggies. The most expensive item is the grilled salmon at $11.95. A slice of baklava will set you back $2.00. Catering is available. Popular with local moms and their kids!

We stopped at Petra after catching a movie. I had Moussaka: very big serving with pita bread and grilled zucchini, eggplant, and tomato. My husband had Lamb Souvlaki Dinner: greek rice with grilled lamb and same vegetables as above. The lamb was just cooked and very tender. The Lamb dish was better than the Moussaka but both were good. Their portions are very ample but what we liked best is the freshness of the food. Will definitely come back. It is a very small restaurant with 3 tables inside and a few tables outside. Saw many people ordering takeout. When it comes to value for your money, Petra is right on.
