This hotel is a great location but lacks some simple fixes to make it 4 or 5 star in our book. Our room had a view of the neighboring cemetery. Some may not like that but ... it was quiet and with the sliding door open, you can hear the roar of the huge waves crashing on the rocks and beach only a short distance away. We did have a slight ocean view and many rooms on west side of the lodge have slight views through the trees on the cemetery property. We were in the Sea Otter building. Our previous visit was in the Cottages section of this hotel and though quiet, it did not have the views we had with the upstairs lodge room.

A few of the downsides and reason I did not rate this hotel higher. 1) it should be made known that this hotel is a smoke free hotel. We had to complain to the front office about the person below us smoking continuously throughout their stay. Even with the sliding door closed, we could still smell his cigarette smoke. Our first night and next day and night ruined by this inconsiderate cigarette smoker. Even though the front desk stated they contacted him to stop, he continued to smoke.

The balcony for this room is an awesome added feature but housekeeping spends ZERO time out there during our 3 night stay. The railing was dirty and moldy. The balcony furniture was never wiped down so we could use it.

Housekeeping forgot to leave us a bathmat after cleaning our room. We found out after 5 pm and went to the front desk. We were told that they would have "maintenance" bring us a bathmat. By 6:30pm, still no bathmat. Over an hour to get a bathmat ... if the front desk is going to stock towels in the front office, why not bathmats?

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking cemetery have the best views and you can hear the waves crashing on the rocks and beach.

Very friendly staff at the reception. We had a nice spacious king bedroom in the lodge. Great view from the balcony to cemetary with deer. Would have been nice to have clean balcony furniture or a carpet that would have been clean without large (coffee?) spots. The breakfast was very good.

Room Tip: Lodge: balcony to cemetary better than to the parking lot

Lighthouse periodically has great deals. The rooms are spacious. Breakfasts are cooked to order and good. Evening hors d’ oeuvres are substantial, include nice wines, and can easily be dinner. Staff are friendly and helpful. The heater thermostat is complex and never was able to set it correctly. It is located one long block from the ocean and walking paths. Deer wander all around. There are gas fire pits if you want to sit outside in the evening. The infrastructure is showing its age with some wood dry rot that is cosmetic. It cost roughly half as much as other BnBs and the food is better. It is now our “go to” place to stay in Pac Grove.

Great front desk help. Mitzy was amazing and made our stay amazing! We originally booked a place in Napa Valley, but due to the terrible fire, we had to shift our location. The property has two parts...cottage and lodge. The cottages are very nice!

We stayed on the cottage side. Location is excellent, on corner of Asilomar and Lighthouse, so you can easily walk in less than ten minutes to the ocean--two long blocks. Continue to end of Asilomar for a scenic beach and lighthouse, or drive to the shops/restaurants of Lighthouse Avenue-- five minutes away.

We didnt stay in the "lodge" side but walking past it via the cemetery,. To comment on some reviews' complaints that some rooms face a cemetery: there are no gravestones right by the rooms. It's a beautiful and historical park area, with huge pine trees, and a distant view to the sea. Unless you are easily spooked, that alone should not be a reason to avoid the Lodge side.

I understand the comments about maintenance issues. The first room we were in, the windows lacked handles so there was no way to open the window without wedging your hand in. The carpet had just been shampooed--a good thing--but was still damp, so we asked to switch rooms. The next room was perfect, all fittings were on the windows. The room is both airy and large but cozy, vaulted ceiling, with a nice sitting area and gas fireplace. Beige and cream--peaceful. Beautifully decorated. Large bathroom --tub/shower and large sink area--with separate "wc" room with toilet. Oddly, there's no exhaust fan in the bathroom, so the room got steamed up after a shower. Very comfortable bed, but sofabed was, as most in hotels are these days quite uncomfortable, Maybe ok for little kids, but not for an adult. There's a small fridge, and microwave, in the rooms The view out the back window was of moss covered trees...and a family of deer. The deer enter the property as well.

The outside walkways are covered in a torn up, brittle rubber. The manager Karla told us those are due to be replaced, and the property refreshed, later this year, likely November once the busy season slows.

Aside for the great bedroom, we loved the evening wine and hors d'oeuvre reception, and the cooked-to-order breakfast. The dining room itself is large lodge style with high ceiling. There's 24 hour tea variety available. Breakfast food was delicious, sometimes served on paper plates, sometimes on "regular" plates, which they ran out of the two mornings we ate there. The servers were amazing, particularly Edmundo V. at the evening reception, and Bernardo in the morning. They were gracious and extremely hard-working. Bernardo was amazing--i cant believe how he, the only server, multitasked with orders, cleaning every table, etc , when the place was packed with guests. He wrapped up an order to go for one family member who was sleeping. Bravo also to the kitchen chef!

Other staff who were excellent--Yoseline and Cassandra at the front desk, Laura in housekeeping, and Karla the manager. As soon as we checked in, we received a call from the front desk staff asking if the room was ok and reminding us to contact them should we need anything.

At night there are two fire pits on the cottage side--perfect for cold grey misty July evening. . The pool and hot tub are across the road,at the "lodge' (motel) side. In the cold, we did not want to use
.
Many people we met were on return visits here to Lighthouse Lodge.

Pacific Grove is not a place for five star lodging. Lighthouses Lodge is quirky--no doubt about it. But this the best of many places we've stayed in PG. There are "budget' motels --some very good, some average (see my other revised --but none have the spaciousness and charm we experienced here. PG is surrounded by ocean. Sand, wind and water all take their toll, and this has been the case in every PG lodging we've stayed at.

Room Tip: The "cottage" side. We stayed in cottage on the Asilomar Ave side.
