Children and grandchildren visiting for the holidays, and, all they wanted was sushi. Were we delighted with appetizers and entrees they provided!! Everything was freshly made, hot tea was perfect, and the beer ice cold. What a wonderful dining experience. Great, friendly and knowledgeable service.

Chef Kiyosaku, his wife Teruka, his sushi chef daughter Mika and granddaughter Kiyomi are back from their summer vacation and we could not be happier! We have travelled the world and visited some of the best Sushi restaurants you can find. This small and vibrant hangout is our fave. Chef Kiyo has mastered the art of sushi and his family make the time we spend there feel like we are part of the family too. Try Kiyo's grapefruit special for something completely different and out of sight!

What a fabulous gem in the desert. Family run eponymous sushi restaurant run by Chef Kiyosaku, his wife Teruka, his sushi chef daughter Mika and granddaughter Kiyomi. (see photo). I highly recommend any of the sushi/sashimi but particularly the yellowtail (hamachi) and toro. The house dish of sushi in a grapefruit is outstanding!

To merely say this is a GREAT sushi place would be an understatement. This is probably the best sushi place, this humble reviewer has been to in the US, hands down. What makes it the "best" is a multitude of things which does not stop with the food, although that is truly first and foremost when reviewing a restaurant after all.

When you walk in, which I did alone and for the first time, they make you feel welcomed. I meet the owner, who is the Chef and his name happens to be, Chef Kiyo. I was lucky to meet his wife and daughter (also a Sushi Chef) as well. The young lady who was the server was wonderfully friendly and helpful as well. She told me that she had "never tried sushi" until she started working there. Well that's amusing, because it's about like playing your first round of golf at Pebble Beach and then saying, "wait a minute, you mean they aren't and why, aren't they all like Pebble. I like like the first place better"?

The food was unbelievably fresh and flavorful, the preparation was wonderful and the taste was out of this world. The home made ponzu sauce was very special.

I was lucky enough to spend the time talking with Chef Kiyo and hearing about his sushi, his piano playing and his singing in THREE languages including Japanese, English and even Spanish. He is wonderful and makes the entire experience all that much better.

While this is not like a flashy Manhattan Nobu or even Beverly Hills Nobu, it's better, and it's in Palm Springs. What it is, is a great place, for great food in a fabulous atmosphere that is more like a small Japanese Inn. If you are not familiar with Japanese omotenashi, once you spend time at Kiyosaku you will understand, as this experience is not like your "normal" sushi place.

Give yourself time to look around the walls at all the awards and photos, enjoy your food and enjoy your time at Kiyosaku and you will be very very pleased.

This may become habitual.

This tiny little gem is family run and the sushi is the best in the valley if you like the real thing and not the American version of sushi...Everything is served with pride and a smile...the fish is always fresh...immaculate...
