“Stunning Views and Majestic Oak Forrest”
Review of Helen Putnam Park

Although not large, the park is criss crossed by trail giving a variety of terrain and look out points from every directions. The initial climb up Arroyo Trail is steep (about a 30% grade), but the top of the hill features more moderate terrain. Park is multiuser, including hikers, dogs, mountain bikes, and horse back riders. Although excellent views are available throughout, don't miss the view from South Loop, one of my favorites. Parking is $7 and you self pay with either cash or credit card from a machine near the parking lot entrance.

This park has something for everyone. There are short easy walks or very strenuous hikes up the hill. A nice pond to sit and just relax. The kids can fish. You can take a picnic too. You have to try it.

If you like to hike in the hills and don't want to drive far this is place. both paved and dirt paths.
Some of the trails are steep like stairs but on dirt. There are single track loops around the hills. Lots of wild flowers in the spring time. There is wild life too.
We have even seen deer up there from time to time.
There is a play ground next to the parking lot for your kids.

One of the access points to the park does not have a parking lot so tourists park on the side of the road with basically no shoulder and in front of an already blind corner. The tourist and illegal bicyclists sometimes don't park all the way off the road making that turn even harder to do safely. Plus bicyclists illegally ride on the road since there is no shoulder, on a road with blind corners and blind hills. This area is truly beautiful and photogenic, but the tourists and bicyclists make it hard to enjoy.
