Description: Rosa's Italian Restaurant in Pismo Beach, CA culminates 50 years of restaurant experience in regional Italian cuisine to create a family operated dining destination by the sea. The combination of Chef Doug MacMillan's Northern Italian cuisine apprenticeship with the Southern Italian family recipes he learned from his mother, Rosa, produces multiple award winning entrees with the freshest and finest quality ingredients. Classic and specialty Italian dishes such as Tortellini Con Quattro Formagio, Veal Piccata, and Pasta California will excite your taste buds and keep you returning time and time again. Our history begins with Rosa, whose journey to the Central Valley of California started in Avellino, Italy, located between Naples and the Mediterranean Sea. After moving to America and marrying Bill MacMillan, the two opened up their first restaurant in 1966. In 1988 when they moved the restaurant to Pismo Beach is when their son, Chef Doug, took over the kitchen. We are customer service oriented, and each of our dishes are made with the same care as if you were in our kitchen at home. In addition to a full menu for dine in a takeout, we offer a full bar with cocktails, beer, and an extensive wine list available to order by the glass and bottle. Our Happy Hour is Sunday through Thursday nights from 4PM - 6PM where we offer $2 off wells, cocktails, and drafts. Our professional staff is ready to welcome you. Come join us for fine Italian dining in a relaxed atmosphere and let us show you the tastes of Italy.

The restaurant does not accept reservations so we walked in and paid the price of a long wait. The wait was worth it, service and food was very good. We had pizza, pasta, chicken and egg plant.. we really enjoyed coming here. When we return to Pismo Beach we will be back.

Walked in for dinner on a Friday night along with half of Pismo Beach. It seemed like the crowd was a normal occurrence there - the front of house staff was really hustling to get people checked in and seated, and to get tables cleaned up quickly when other guests left. We were given a 45 minute estimate and got seated after just over an hour. The service was quick and attentive; they acknowledged the long wait and thanked us, and drinks and appetizers came out quickly. We started with some calamari and then had a couple pastas and veal piccata. The portions were very large, even the kid's portion we ordered for our son. I'd say that at least half the guests, if not more, left with leftover bags. I had the shrimp and scallops with pesto and sun-dried tomatoes - delicious!

I choose Rosa's for my birthday dinner because I wanted an authentic Italian dinner with my family of six. Right from the beginning Rosa's disappointed us by seating us on the patio in uncomfortable plastic seats, at a round table designed to fit four people, maybe five. When our appetizers came, there was barely enough room to fit the dishes in the middle of the table and the waiter did nothing to help us arrange the table to accommodate the food. The calamari, buratta and mussels appetizers were good, however. The main courses, such as raviolis, lasagne, and veal were bland, poorly prepared, and disappointing. Of course the waiter did not notice that most of the dishes on the table were not eaten and no-one wished to take them home, because he never checked to see if we were enjoying our meal until the food was cold and we were ready to leave. I left embarrassed that I choose this place for a special dinner.

Food was exceptional (I'll never again think all marinara sauce is the same), service impeccable, atmosphere lovely. All this, despite how busy it was with families visiting Cal Poly. What more can one say? What a wonderful holiday experience.
