Owner description: Popular ski/resort area that receives the most natural snowfall in Southern California.

You can find more challenging slopes in Southern California. Both Mountain High and Big Bear feature longer expert runs and more terrain features for the dare devil sportsmen among us. But Snow Valley has two great advantages over these resorts, especially for us intermediate skiers. One, it's inexpensive. And two it's closer.

To which can be added a third: it is almost always less crowded. All of which makes for a very pleasant experience. Lift lines are reasonable. I rarely wait more than a few minutes. The routes are scenic and fairly challenging for the non experts among us. And, to be honest, the burgers are great.

In fact, I'm so taken with this small resort and their friendly staff that I am buying a season pass for next season. Will I outgrow it? Hope not, but it's worth noting their season pass includes free lift tickets at Brian Head and Mountain High, so for the price you can hardly go wrong.

And speaking of price, here's a quick tip: you might want to stop at a board or ski rental shop in Running Springs on your way to Snow Valley. You can save a little on ticket price (about $5) and perhaps 15 minutes in line waiting at the resort proper for a lift ticket. Rentals at the resort are also relatively inexpensive, but again you can save a little more at the rental shops in Running Springs.

We wanted our child to see snow, and of course the weekend we booked in arrowhead was 60... so we went to Snow Valley to take her sledding. It was great sledding, very easy, ride the lift up, very long sledding hill down, very worthwhile. Although I will say its super expensive! it was over $30 per person! I was a bit astounded by the cost, but we got to play in snow. would recommend for kids, family sledding for sure. Although probably want to bring a picnic. We got 2 burgers and chicken strips and waters, and the bill was over $50... i had to chuckle...

my kids (7 & 5 yrs old) are tired of riding tubing. so we decided to try skiing this year. enrolled both of them in learning center. both of them liked it. however the little one (5 yrs old) wanted to ride with parent on second day. so we took her out and ski together. overall snow valley seems good choice for beginners.

Its good as only a short drive to get to if you local but always check for snow chain advisories but if you stuck some of they guys will let use and bring back for a fee of course at side of road where they fit them but better than having a wasted trip average fee around $50 total to hire, fit and remove again they charge $40 alone for fitting also bring some snack with you as food expensive at cafe and only 2nd class at that

Had the best day skiing yesterday with my daughter! Easily drove up to this fun, charming ski resort from one of the beach cities in Orange County in less than two hours. Beautiful sunny warm day. Slopes were well groomed, staff very friendly and organized at the ski rental. (Mountain is actually bigger than it looks in the picture as you can't see the upper area.) Also shared some laughs on the sledding run! SV provides the sleds and there's a lift. This was Super Bowl Sunday and we had a blast watching the game in the lodge at the end of the day. There was a drawing for prizes every quarter. This was a perfect ending to a great day because we missed a lot of the traffic heading back down from the mountain.
Pray for snow because it is quite a gift to enjoy skiing in sunny warm Southern California. SV may not be a Squaw Valley or Mammoth but it's a great alternative for those who love to ski without the time consuming hassle of a larger resort!
