I love this restaurant! The atmoshere is friendly, the decor is inviting and the food is simply excellent. I stopped by for lunch and enjoyed a tap beer along with their Chicken Taco Special for $12. What a bargain! When you sit down you are presented with house made green salsa, puree'd black beans and fresh chips. The lunch special featured two mildly spiced shredded chicken soft tacos, black beans and a small salad. The main foods items were great, however, the salad is what shined. It wasn't large, but it offered a beautifully spiced sesame/citrus vinagarette tossed with chopped greens and peanuts. It was very good and just the right proportion. After four visits to Zacalo over the past several years, this restaurant has never disappointed me. Great job Zacalo staff!

I have eaten here numerous times. I love that they start you out with a delicious bean dip and salsas. The food has always been great here each time.

The atmosphere inside the restaurant on a weekend night is great! It gets very live but not annoyingly loud and perfect for larger groups.
Food was good, different, but good.
Much fancier than a normal Mexican restaurant. Service was great - prompt but not overbearing.

The good: service was excellent, valet efficient, reasonable and convenient, and decor just beautiful. The not so good: with the exception of the arracheras meal, the food was disappointing. I had been to a mixer there last Fall and the food was great. This time the appetizers were undercooked, the shrimp tacos were cold, light on the shrimp and heavy on the veggie topping, and the fish tacos lacked flavor. Mango margarita was good. Loved the cilantro rice. Not likely to give it another try.

It is not a small traditional Mexican restaurant. The dishes are a little different or more Spanish? Whatever it is, it is wonderful and you will not be disappointed.
