We had reservations for only three persons when we had unexpected visitors from out of town, and on Saturday night we were not sure they would be able to sit us together, but they did. The server was ok but overwhelmed with so many diners.

We have been going to Ella for quite some time. Last night was a celebration of my birthday and I was asked 4 times if it was my birthday. Not that it is a big deal, but when they asked I expected some sort response. The service last night was very slow and not at all what I would expect from them. The drink and wine service was really slow and we had to ask twice to have our bottle that we brought opened. I would think that when charged $25 to open a bottle, there would be a better service. After all, beside the food (quite good) all we are paying for is service. I am sure we will try it again, but last night was very disappointing.

Group dinner in the main dining room in view of the open kitchen. Attentive and friendly wait staff. Nice modern atmosphere but a bit on the noisy side. The appetizers were all very good and perfectly timed. The wine list was very good with something for everyone. The dinner was served family style which was an excellent experience. Like eating from a tasting menu. Grilled salmon, steak, vegetarian dish, and all sides were excellent. Freshly prepared and seasoned to perfection. We had our choice of desserts which were all excellent. Truly an fine dining experience.

The server was good, at first, but really fall off the mark toward the end. We told him we had a concert to attend that night and he said no problem. We got everything on get time, but dessert took 30 minutes. The dessert was nothing much. Our server got busy and forgot us. We had to ask for our check and then we had to give it to the helper to get it processed.
Now the food. My friend had the rib eye steak with no favor. I had a lamb shank and there was lots of fat on it.
It made us sad because this place was been great in the past.

Nice, modern, hip dining scene for downtown Sacramento. Our food selections were delicious and prepared to our requests. Service was attentive and there when needed.

The only odd thing was that we arrived at the start of the lunch crowd yet several items on the menu, including a specialty, had only a couple of servings available. Almost seems like they were relying on yesterday’s preparations instead of having plenty for the lunch crowd. That was disappointing. If that had not been the case, it would have rated a 5.

Lots of parking garages nearby plus valet if walking a block is a problem. Recommended. Cheers
