My husband and I were going East on a trip and wanted to leave our car at the hotel, take a flight at SFO, and then stay for a night on our return and pick up our car. So we arranged for a Park and Fly rate. We arrived at the hotel, left our car, and expected the promised hotel shuttle to take us to the airport. On the website, the shuttle is listed as a feature of the hotel's service. But there is no official shuttle. The front desk calls up a "gypsy cab" type service and a driver, in this case a local contractor in an old car picked us up and took us to the airport. Ok, unusual but ok. On our return, we called the hotel from SFO asking to be picked up. Instead we were told by the front desk to call a number. Ok, I did that. But the person who answered the phone was at a noisy place with music and talking, like a bar, and couldn't understand me. I could not understand him and neither could my husband. So we ended up taking a $23 cab ride to the hotel instead. The hotel is not as near the airport as we had thought. We explained the situation and were told "Sorry, but we can't pay your fare." The manager was not available but we were told he would be notified. Have heard nothing.
This hotel is fine if all you need is a place to stay. The rooms are clean and large. But if you are counting on the shuttle, I would recommend staying elsewhere. I can recommend the room, but wouldn't recomment this hotel to a friend who needed the shuttle.

Stayed at this hotel for 3 night for a business trip. The hotel is very close to SFO, yet has free parking, which was a huge bonus for me. Free speedy wifi, free newspaper, and the rooms were HUGE! The staff was very friendly, their was a restaurant on site with a bar. The only downside is that the hotel is difficult to get to. It's right off the express way, but when coming from SFO you have to go past the hotel, get off and then get back on to exit from the northbound lanes of the expressway. Other than that the hotel was great.

We ended up here because we tried to get into our downtown SF accommodations a day early and they were sold out. This is a brand new hotel with really nice, big rooms. Bed was comfortable and we slept well. Only complaints would be not enough outlets, and the bath products, while generous, had way too strong of a scent to them. I have asthma and that lotion smelled so much it made me wheeze.
There's a bistro/bar right next to the check-in desk, but we didn't try it. Nice to have though if you can't or don't want to leave the hotel. We did eat breakfast there and while it was good, the two guys working seemed overwhelmed.
Our rate was $119, with a $20 certificate towards breakfast. Parking is free.
We went into downtown San Mateo and ate at Kingfish, which is a really cool place. The downtown is very happening, with lots of locally owned restaurants. People were out and about everywhere enjoying a Saturday night.

When I read some of the reviews I wonder whether this is the same hotel. The rooms are big by Holiday Inn standards and reasonably quiet to outside noise but not internal noise. On the downside the advertised airport shuttle is not a regular shuttle like the other "airport" hotels and the hotel is not listed on the hotel free phone at the airport like the other hotels including other Holiday Inns. In fact there is no dedicated shuttle bus but rather what appears to be a private taxi that only operates when called. It can only accommodate 5 people and modest luggage. It is OK from the hotel to the airport but not the other way because you cant pre book and have to ring and wait to be rung back. It does not pick up from the regular shuttle pickup but near the taxi rank. I waited more than an hour for my transfer to arrive. The hotel is also rather isolated and in an area I wouldn't be wandering at night. To call it an airport hotel is a bit of a stretch. It is about as far away from the airport as any "airport" hotel and has no shops or other facilities within easy waling distance and as far as I could determine there is no public transport. There is no lunch venue of any kind at the hotel but dinner and breakfast are OK. In my view it is not a good choice for travellers without a car (or even with one). It is much more convienient in Burlingame where the hotels not only have regular shuttles to and from the airport but also offer free and regular shuttles to a couple of nearby shopping areas. I do agree with those who complained about the indifferent staff and the lack of local knowledge or at least a willingness to be helpful. No repeat visits for this traveller.

This hotel is a little hard to get to due the highway off ramps and having to double back. The rooms are large and comfortable. Some of the staff have issues, others have no idea how to do there job. The hotel manger or the resturant manager runs this hotel with a very strong arm and puts fear into the staff which you can see on their faces. Trying to get an itemized bill prior to leaving was difficult since I was staying a long time. There were issues with ice machines, not working on our floor and took several days to get repaired. The exercise room is connected with the hot tub and the smell of chlorine was extremely high. Since this was an extended stay, the hotel has washers and dryers for your use, which are old and shake and use way to much water for California. The machines look like they were bought on a yard sale. Our key card had to be reset many times. One stop down is a Whole foods store and shops on the other side of Hillsdale Blvd. There is a restaurant and bar area. We never ate there but the prices seemed a little high, because there are no restaurants around the area. All in all we would stay again because of the large rooms
