The Silver Surf is ideally located for access to both the nearby Hearst Castle and the HWY1, the Big Sur.
The motel room was clean and tidy with plenty of room. The room had coffee making facilities and a fridge & micro wave.
All rooms look over the motels 'garden' It is near an American Diner, the Big Sur were breakfast are quite reasonable.

Average hotel. I understand rates are high everywhere during a weekend holiday (labor day), but paying $300 for a room with no air conditioning during end of summer 100° heat seemed ridiculous. I would've even went to motel 6 had I realized there was no air conditioning.

Truly awful!!!

What a terrible place!!!

It seemed nice as we checked in, but don't let that front desk guy fool you!

We were subject to a bunch of trashy kids partying next door to us and were woken up at almost midnight by them. The front desk guy was NOWHERE to be found. We called from the room to the office NO answer. We called their "after hours emergency" number and it didn't even ring!!! Eventually, we called the police as we could locate no one to help us. The POLICE. Imagine?

The next morning, upon checking out the front desk guy was again nowhere to be found. Like, do your job!!!!!

Finally he appeared after the maintenance guy helped us look for him (which the maintenance guy explained is a normal occurrence and that he often disappears). What a joke.

The front desk guy took zero accountability. Did not offer any apologies. Told us it was our fault that we chose to stay here. Told us "we only lost a few hours sleep" and who cares.

What disgusting "customer service". We reserved through a website that had good reviews, but don't be fooled.

Room was clean, the pool was gross looking, the grounds were alright. Ice machine was revolting.

The only nice person was the guy who helped us look for the front desk guy.

Very very nice staffs! They answer questions very detailed and treat clients on their best. Pool and spa are also marvelous! They are indoor and very private. Recommend for all kinds of trip. I will book this motel again if I visit Hearst's Castle again. By the way, it is super close from Hearst's Castle (about 10 mins driving), and one block away from beach.

Room was not what expected. There was NO air conditioner on the hottest weekend of the year. The manager was a total DB!!!!!!! Apparently, I was redirected to Expedia or some affiliate of theirs, when I made the reservation. I never saw Expedia written anywhere. That being said, the manager told me that the room was paid for and there was nothing he could do about it when I complained that there was no air conditioner, no private balcony, no ocean view. He just said it was my word against his. Being on the second floor and the window opened to a courtyard (dog poop area), there was no breeze, and due to safety concerns we could not leave the window open at night. Could not even stay the second night it was so hot. Money wasted, lesson learned.

Room Tip: Don't stay here.
