We stayed two nights at the Quality Inn in San Simeon. It had its good points and bad points. The lady at the front desk is so sweet and kind. I just loved her. She made you feel so welcome and she was so happy to see you there. I wanted a room with a king bed, but they were all on the second floor and there are no elevators, so I would have had to carry my 50 lb. suitcase up the stairs. I certainly didn’t want to do that, so I got a room with two queen beds. Rooms 200 through 300 are in a different building and surrounded a courtyard which was nice and pretty. Each room has a balcony with a couple of chairs on them. My room was nice with good things and bad things. The room had been painted and repainted. The bathroom door was hard to close because of that. There was a heater in the room that was built into the wall. One of those old ones, but it worked for me. I had a connecting room with my parents. I couldn’t get the door opened because once again it was stuck because of the continual painting. My parents had to push my door open in order for me to get access into their room. Each room had a microwave and small refrigerator. Both beds were broken down on the side where you’re close to the bedside table. They need to flip their mattresses. I tried both beds and they were both like that. You really felt like you rolled uphill to get to the other side of the bed. But, with that being said, I slept well. The bathrooms were nice with big, long solid surface countertops and nice bathroom amenities. The coffee pot was in the bathroom and it took up a lot of the space on the countertop. It should be in the room someplace instead of the bathroom. The shower/tub was nice with the curved shower curtain rod. Hot water and good water pressure. The faucet in the bathroom was really close to the lip of the countertop, so you didn’t have a lot of room to wash your hands. They kept hitting the countertop. The sink was mounted under the solid surface countertop. They need to change the faucets so they stretch out further over the sink. The breakfast was very nice – waffles, cereals, juice, milk and danishes. Everything was kept clean and nice in the small dining area. The pool was very warm, but kind of green when I was there. I didn’t get in it, but it would have been warm enough to get in. I just didn’t like the greenish color. There was a hot tub that looked inviting, but once again I didn’t use that either. There was a nice fire pit where you could sit around it if they turned it on. It was on in the am, and there were people sitting around it. I would have loved to have sat there and ate breakfast and enjoyed the sunshine. There is a nice restaurant on the property. I would have loved to have tried it, but didn’t have the chance. The hotel is only about 3 or 4 miles from Hearst Castle. It is a good hotel to stay at and is at a very reasonable price. There are a lot of great restaurants to eat at in the next town called Cambria.
