This place just opened in Santa Barbara and I've already been there twice! Beautifully prepared seafood and tasty cocktails. It's not the least expensive option on the waterfront, but you get what you pay for. The menu and decor are top notch.

A pair of long time friends dined at this new establishment, housed in the newly refurbished building that had long held Rusty's Pizza. It's on a prime, beach facing plot along the re-engineered Mission Creek, adjoining the gentrified Funk Zone. We had heard good things about it, and came to see for ourselves. The decoration is attractive and sleek. There is a bar island in the middle-front area, with an open kitchen beyond, dramatic flames occasionally flaring up from the grill. Tables surround this, hugging walls and windows with splendid views of rows of palm trees on the beach outside. The personable manager, Gerry Bravo, who grew up on the nearby island of Catalina, came by to greet us once we were seated; the waitstaff was prompt, friendly, and got our orders right, even to the request for water without ice. We sat downstairs, which became a little noisy as the time passed; it turns out that the smaller area upstairs is quieter and has an arguably even better view from the patio. Our waiter asked if we wanted more of the tasty (sour dough?) bread, and more of the cut half-loaves were brought to the table. My butterflied trout was broiled well, neither dry nor overdone, which can easily happen to thin fish. I had a choice of three sauces, but the fish tasted very good without any addition. It was served on top of two sides of my choice, which were also nicely cooked. My only complaint might be that the half lemon that came with the fish had been broiled with a little flavored oil, which tasted very good, but makes the lemon slippery and leaves the fingers feeling a bit greasy. But that was a small matter—the bathroom was clean and very attractive. We will be back.

Our table was not cleaned properly when we sat down with crumbs on the table and seat. The hostess said they were short handed but not a great start. The wait for taking an order was very long and the food came separately. So we ended up not really eating together which really is part of the restaurant experience. Our wine took more than 15 minutes to appear and the water never showed up. The food was ok but the service (or lack of it) really make this not a great experience. Take a miss and try some of the other great choices on offer in Santa Barbara.
