We stayed in hotel Solares for only one night, on our way to Monterey. It did the trick. The room was really big (the biggest I've ever seen in a hotel, seriously), the bed was comfortable and also big. Our bathroom was clean enough (room 314), even if we had some trouble to get the shower going. Breakfast was decent, though mostly carbs and sweets, not a lot of fruit and no eggs. For an overnight stay, this was perfect.

True, the hotel is a bit rundown and the neighbourhood isn't great. It's a good location though.

Downsides: the front desk attendant was polite at best, apathetic at worst. The sliding door to the balcony had no lock, only a door chain. There was no safe in the room. Also, making you pay to park on their own lot, which has more than enough room, is pure robbery and offends me on a personal level.

The best thing about this hotel was the location. Ideally situated to the Boardwalk, Beach and Downtown. The room we stayed in was right at the end of the co directly on to the car park at the back of the hotel - and the window had obviously been broken in the past as the louvre slat had been poorly repaired with a baton of wood. There was no safe in the room and the fire door could not shut securely. The bathroom was very dirty with previous guests 'hair' still on the floor. Sadly, we would not recommend this hotel.

Paid 300+ dollars for the night and being ready to pay $50 for the pet fee, we were unpleasantly surprised when we entered an old and outdated lobby and and told to pay additional fees for the self parking, taxes on the pet fee (!) and to sigh a paper for a possible property damage.
Cancelled the reservation and left.

The room was very large. That the main positive thing I have to say about this hotel. The breakfast was fair also.
Beside that, I would recommend to pass.
The maintenance is pure and it Highlights how old the place is.
the shower was horrible, no stream. The Towels were in bad condition. We asked for a baby bed, Twice!, and didn't get any answer from the desk lady (a No is an answer too...).
In this case I don't thing that the price is an Excuse for such a level.

눉There was NO WELCOME. Just 'do you have a card or a reference number?' Our room stank of dampness and urine. We opened the windows and turned on air con. The smell was still there after 10 mins so we asked for a different room. Having unpacked we were setting up our devices to charge them when we discovered there was no electricity in the sockets. The air con would not work either. Went back to reception, they sent a guy to the room. He got the air con working ( very noisy) but could not get the electrical sockets to work. Rather than look for a third room, we decided to unplug the table lamp and use that one socket for all our power needs. We needed to ask for more towels as only two were provided in a room for four. It seems all rooms have interconnecting doors, there was some noise from the rpom next to us but not too obtrusive. The most noise came from upstairs where we could hear EVERY footstep. Breakfast experience was not good. About 8 small tables for the whole hotel in a tight cramped space. People were constantly bumping into each other and spilling food. The breakfast offerings were mostly carbs, oatmeal, breads, waffles, bagels. There were no protein options available such as eggs - not even peanut butter! As a European I have never stayed in a 'hotel' with such low standards of accommodation or food. Perhaps they should consider rebranding to a hostel, inn, motel or lodging as these would be more appropriate terms. For $200 (incl tax) for a room I would have expected more.

On the positive side the beds were comfy. Coffee was good. My daughter enjoyed the pool.
