All I can say is that I am in love with Ocean Echo! The private beach, the cozy cottages and the outstanding management make this such a gem. We recently rented out all 16 cottages for a 50th birthday and it was the perfect location to have a celebration. We had a bonfire on Friday and then food catered in for Saturday. Bill and Shelly really went out of their way to make this one of the most amazing events I have ever planned. Some cottages have a private deck and some with kitchens. You can BBQ or leave and eat out - doesn't matter - but you will love the sound of the waves coming from your own private cove. Everyone we introduce this place to is immediately taken back. I will continue to come back. Just thinking of the next party I can throw at Ocean Echo!

I loved staying here. We had a blast! The owners are friendly. The location is great. It has it's own private beach. We were able to have a bon fire at night.
Our cottage had its own private deck with very nice patio furniture. It also had its own BBQ on the deck. The master bedroom was lovely and the king bed was nice and comfy. I loved the full kitchen and the cleanliness of the whole place.
We had a great vacation and will definitely be staying here again! :)

Our son who is in the Air Force just got his deployment papers..again and would not be home until 2012. So we began looking for a place by the beach in Santa Cruz so our family could be together to spend time with him before he deployed. I came across Ocean Echo Inn and gave them a call. Shelly set us up with cottage #1. When we arrived we were pleasantly surprised by how cute these cottages were. The first morning in cottage #1 we got a knock on the door and Bill told us Shelly arranged to move us to cottage #5 (Much bigger room). They upgraded us! This made for a great next few nights with the family and a BBQ on the porch, we could not have asked for a better time! Bill and Shelly where so hospitable and helpful. They made sure our stay was a pleasant one, and that it was. We would stay here again and recommend it to our friends. The little beach cove nearby was very cute and the waves crashing off the shore was very peaceful! Thank you Bill and Shelly for making it a great Christmas in September for our family and god speed to our kids serving overseas to be back home safe and sound.

Room Tip: Cottage #5 was awesome!

I have been enjoying the hospitality at this unique and charming inn for over ten years! But now it is better than ever, thanks to new managers Bill and Shelley Strauch. They are friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. They have done a lot of work to spruce the place up, without compromising its homey atmosphere. It's clean, quiet, comfortable, and reasonably priced, with lots of personal touches like beautiful flowers, a great front veranda, bagels in the morning and even a selection of books to read, plus board games that families can borrow to entertain themselves in the evenings.

If you are looking for a typical luxury hotel, this wouldn't really be the place for you. Neither is it one of those standardized, impersonal, large chain motels. Instead, it truly is like a home away from home. One of the nicest things about it is that it has an actual BATHTUB, not just a shower, in the room I've been requesting these past 11 years. I go to Santa Cruz specifically to surf its fantastic waves, but the water here is pretty cold. So being able to come back to my room after surfing all day and relax in a hot bath was just heavenly! Like a Jacuzzi, only even better because it's in my own private room.

The location of the Ocean Echo is ideal too - away from the busier, noisier environments of downtown, the Boardwalk area, or even 41st Avenue. It's right in the middle of town by Sunny Cove, an easy drive to either the Westside (Steamer Lane) or Eastside (Pleasure Point) surf areas. If you prefer to walk to the beach, Sunny Cove is a fun sandy beach whichg is great for families, swimmers and bodyboarders. You can even enjoy a bonfire there in the evenings, or listen to the waves breaking from your cottage.

Two fantastic restaurants are also within walking distance; Nuevo, with unique and delicious Southwestern cuisine, and Star Bene, which offers both Italian and Argentinian dishes. Lots of great places for hiking, biking, and birdwatching are also right there.

I look forward to returning as soon as possible to the Ocean Echo, truly my home away from home!

We stayed at the Ocean Echo for three nights earlier this month as part of a two month road trip we are taking down the Californian coast. We have stayed in many other B & B's/cottage accommodation since and for the price we paid at the Ocean Echo we expected a little more than basic motel style accommodation. The location is excellent and the owners do provide a light breakfast assortment of bagels, donuts and yoghurt which is helpful but the accommodation is basic. The owner told us they have to price high in order to keep 'undesirables' - such as drunk locals - out but we don't see why guests should have to bear the inflated price. We wouldn't stay here again.
