We were driving down Californian coast on a road trip. I had planned a motel in SF, and we were going to pick up Motel 6's (great)on the rest of the route but after a slight detour we ended up in Santa Cruz at midnight with nowhere to stay. Most places were full or asking for $250 for the night. As we were only using it to sleep for 6 hours I grudged this and stupidly went for this Motel at $180. Place looked ok from drive up and reception so decided to go for it as we were exhausted. Worst mistake of our trip. Place was full of unsavoury characters, many of the windows look as if they had been damaged by break ins and the room was horrible. It actually made me feel dirty. I stay in hotels all across the world and do not give out many bad reviews. This has to be the worst. If we weren't so tired, and lost, I would have shipped out. Instead we put our cases against the door, and slept for a few hours before getting up and leaving straight away!
My advice is drive a few more miles to a Motel 6. We stayed in a few on our trip and they were great budget motels if your looking for a cheap, clean room.More
