Great place to stop by for coffees and music. Very relaxed and comfortable. Certainly casual and a relaxed crowd. Tip well, keep the hard-working staff rewarded for their nice vibe.

UnUrban Café is a Santa Monica must! Many people think of SaMo in terms of 3rd Street Promenade, the Pier, Main Street, and Montana Avenue, but there is so much more to this fabulous city! The flip side of all that upscale consumer-friendly business is absolutely UnUrban: a masterpiece of kitsch and coffee, proudly jutting out on the corner of Pico Boulevard near the far edge of Santa Monica. And edgy it is. Here is what says about itself on their website (because I really could not say it any better!):

"The Unurban is a quaint bohemian-style coffee house. Inside, you’ll find mismatching wallpaper, chairs and tables that placidly come together for a nice colorful mix. It's a place where you can get music, art, laughter, get smarter, express yourself, make a difference in the world, and various other takeaways, depending on how you make use of the space but most of all, be a part of the community."

UnUrban UnUrban continues to provide a friendly space for artists and entertainers and their audiences, with comedy, poetry, open mic, music showcases, gaming, and film screenings. They offer reverse osmosis water, healthy food and beverage alternatives such as hormone-free milk, almond and soy milk, and vegan, gluten-free, and organic options. There are plenty of fresh, tasty, well-made breakfast, lunch, and dinner items on the menu: pastries and omelets, soups, salads, sandwiches, and so much more. These are all good things in a world filled with "foods" created in Petrie dishes, and chemicals seemingly in everything.

I have been drinking UnUrban mochas since the joint opened in 1995, and I have yet to find better espresso drinks in the area. And with a motto like "Death Before Decaf," you have to know that they are serious about coffee!

This is a safe area for walking and biking, with a nearby Trader Joe's, a handful of restaurants for all appetites, and the iconic McCabe's Guitar Shop.

UnUrban is more an experience than a cup of joe and a scone, and I recommend that you check it out soon!

When I dine in I like real coffee in real cups. If I choose to go to Starbucks I accept that I will get paper cups. The coffee at Un- Urban was too weak & with a polystyrene after taste. That place needs a big overhaul. Give it a miss ..
