The good news is that the bed was firm and the bedding newer. Other than that, book a reservation and don't just show up. We never saw anyone in the office and got our key from the housekeeper. After calling the number on the office door and getting a recording my husband heard the housekeeper upstairs and got her attention. She called and spoke to someone and then got us a key. If you are staying there, turn into the parking lot BEFORE you pass the building. The next parking lot is the library. As for the free breakfast, it isn't available until after 8 a.m. We are early risers so brought our own coffee maker, but didn't realize we weren't going to get our 'free breakfast' which is the only reason we chose this hotel over the other one of this style. It is a very old hotel, so expected an old hotel smell and brought our own portable air purifier which helped. But there was hair on the floor in the bathroom when we arrived and when we left. The doors are filthy. The tub is narrow and difficult to stand in when taking a shower. There was an overhead light/fan of which two of the three bulbs were burnt out and the fan only had two speeds - off and barely turning. Really, the only good thing about this stay was the bed. Definitely not worth the price we had to pay. We will drive into Ventura if we have to go back to the area.
