We've been wanting to try this restaurant for a while and we are sad that we haven't tried it sooner. Not only is the staff super friendly and welcoming, the food is top notch. I has the Hausplate, with a variety and I cleared my plate. My wife had the snitczel and it was also delicious. Of course I had to top it wash it down with a great German beer. Seriously good food, quaint atmosphere, and super friendly service. Can't wait to go back.

Thank Donald S

This place is in serious need of an update. It was a bit run down and dirty looking and the food was nothing special. However, if you want to feel like you are in your grandmas house and she just made you dinner...this might be it. Food was a little heavy and boring...but very grandma German. Also, seemed a bit overpriced for what you got. Simple food. We haven't been back.

The pork dishes are wonderful as is the bratwurst. They even have currywurst which you rarely see outside of Germany. Many wonderful beers to choose from and their German red wine was more than passable. Don't miss the desserts. They are not made in-house, BUT they are made by a wonderful Alsatian baker in Pacific Grove. Needless to say, the Black Forest cake is to die for. As others have mentioned, it is on the more expensive side, but I think comparable to other German restaurants. The restaurant is hidden on a side street, but there is plenty of parking, and it is well worth searching out. You will need a reservation for dinner.

Been here many times over the years. Nice German restaurant with very authentic food. Have some beer with the Kraut, it's authentic too. The owner, yes, authentic. Nice atmosphere, German music, etc
Not cheap though. The plates themselves are not too overpriced (around $20), but a glass of water $3.75 (ok from an imported bottle). Glass of Orange water $4. Slice of mediocre cake $7.50. Plus they charged almost $50 "Service" for our party of 6 (wtf) unfortunately saw that only after tipping them on top of that. Jeez.

Discovered by accident on a side street in Seaside, but what a find. If you like German food and the atmosphere of Gasthaus, this is the place to go (speaking as someone who has been to Germany many times over the past 40 years). Good food, great friendly service and very reasonable prices for Monterey Peninsula area. Since this was our first time in this establishment, we took the advice of the owner and ordered the house platter. This is basically a sampling of the major food groups (sauerkraut, rotkraut, sausage, schnitzel, port cutlet, potatoes) and was wonderful. Each plate was enough for two people, so we took a lot of leftovers home with us. German beer on tap as well made the perfect accompaniment. We decided after this first visit that it will become a regular dining spot in the rotation. Nothing fancy, just real German food in a real Gasthaus atmosphere. If that appeals to you (it certainly does to us), you are in for an enjoyable experience.
