The lodge is in a quiet location 1 mile from Route 49. It is close to the well stocked local store in Wawona. Access to Yosemite valley is easy and fairly quick but leave early to avoid parking problems in the valley itself. The lodge is well furnished however its photographs do not do it justice. The only negative comment would be that the outdoor furniture is a bit of a miss match and should be updated to enhance the overall experience.
We chose this cabin because of the close distance to the Merced River and it was nice to get to listen to the water running. We got lucky with Yosemite having so much snow during the winter so there was a lot of water in river. That was the big positive for this cabin. But it was also nice (at least initially) that the cabin did not have wifi. Cell service signal in area was non-existent too. Although the teenagers in our group was not all too happy with it, it was nice to unplug from work and our technology craze devices. It's been so many years since I last took a vacation without work popping up every few hours on my phone. But I have to admit that I was missing Internet by the 3rd day. At least the Redwoods registration building had free wifi so we knew we could get that if we wanted. Certainly our two teenagers grumbled over the distance to that building but glad they had it and went there twice every day in the morning and evening.
The cabin was clean but furnishing and blankets were a bit outdated. It wasn't even mountain cabin like style so I can't say I was feeling the woodsy feeling. Water temperature was extreme and could move from very cold to burning hot so we had to be careful and made sure the little ones didn't play with the water on their own. The heater in the bedrooms were also off on temperature because even if left at the low setting of 62, it was still very hot.
The novelty of getting unplugged was nice but wore out quickly. In hindsight, we still can get unplugged because there is no cell service (except Verizon) in the park and would have been nice to have wifi at the cabin after hiking all day. At least it could allow us to stream movies to watch when back in the cabin.
Would we come back? Maybe, but probably only when I retire and kids are grown up and can appreciate the mountains without needing their phones. But then there are other cabins that might be more comfortable to stay in.
Great cabin with comfortable beds. Quiet, uninterrupted family time. Great kitchen with all needed items.
Nice size house with beautiful roomy family living area! Bathrooms' sliding doors need upgrading but very clean! We stayed during a very hot week and it was frustrating that we could not open the sliding windows in the living room to let the breeze in. Too many mosquitos and no screen windows! Hopefully they add the screen windows in the family room. It would have made a huge difference since outside the air was cool in the evening.
Perfect weekend getaway! Except for a half-dozen quite dirty drinking glasses in the cupboards, house was clean and comfortable. Perfect layout and bed configuration (1 King bedroom, 2 Queen bedroom, 3rd bedroom with 2 Twin beds) for our needs. House a bit farther from Yosemite Valley than we wanted (45 min.), but perfect location for exploring South Yosemite / Wawona area. I appreciated the big picture windows for extra light as I really dislike dark, mountain homes. Wish we had had time to BBQ on back deck as view was beautiful and sound of river so soothing. Family room thermostat a bit temperamental.
