The Populist is one of our favorite restaurants for subtle, refreshing, creative dishes. We finally tried the tasting menu that had to be Vegetarian, GF, no nuts with no advance notice to the chef. They knocked it out of the park. The wine pairing was so fun and creative. Can't wait to try it again!!!

What a wonderfully eclectic venue! The location leaves you wondering as you find a place to park-it's not in the trendy part of town and the building looks a hole-in-the-wall. We came early in the evening with reservations. As we partook of our meal, the place filled up quickly & the noise level climbed. We were definitely on the older side of the crowd-most looked in their late 20's or 30's. By the time we left, there was standing room only.

The food is another story. Each small plate that was brought out was a unique experience with amazing flavors coming out gradually as you partook. Our wait staff were very attentive and explained each dish. I had a question regarding a particular wine and one of the bartenders came over to expertly describe for me exactly where it came from in France and the particulars of the soil, grapes, etc. The cocktails offered come in the classic form and also come in a unique twist with special flavorings.

This is a unique and fun dining experience!

I had dinner here last fall with friends and loved every minute of it. I was initially a bit bummed that they'll only take reservations until 6:00 p.m., but that meant we were there for part of happy hour. Plus, we ordered the 7-course tasting menu, which meant a leisurely two-and-a-half hour meal - no rushing at all. At $75 per couple, I thought the portions for the tasting menu might be paltry, but they were generous, delicious, and beautifully plated. I was also impressed with the wine pairing - three full-size wine pours and port with dessert for only $20! Service was friendly, too. I can't wait to go back.

Do not recommend this place for anyone over 40 yrs. old. First they lost our reservation for 8. When finally seated we all found the insistent pounding bass on the PA system so loud it was painful. It was also impossible to hear what the server was saying. We finally left after about 20 minutes without ordering.

We went for happy hour on a Thursday afternoon. The staff was rude, unfriendly and not accommodating. Gave us quick one word answers to our questions, no smile from anyone. Food
was good, expensive.
