I visited the Colorado Wolf and Wildlife Center with a group of five in October while on a short trip to Colorado. We only had time to visit a few things in the area and I'm so glad that we decided to make this location one of them.

For any visit to the center you must call ahead for a reservation and give a credit card to reserve a spot, however, it's a really hassle free process and we received a lot of help and information when we called. Regular tours are only ten dollars but my group chose to do the later feeding tour for ten more dollars each. For us twenty dollars seemed still really inexpensive for such an unique experience. The tour consisted of a medium sized group (twenty or less people) and was led by a very knowledgeable young man. We were lead around each of the fox, wolves, and coyote enclosures for about an hour while we were given information about each animal. He talked a lot about the dangers these animals face and how we can help prevent them, he discussed many misconceptions we have regarding wolves and why they are not based in fact, it was incredibly informative without being "preachy". I feel like this is information all people should be exposed to and will be especially important for children to learn about. The guide was so passionate about the animals and told some really touching stories, I was never once bored. During the tour the guide threw food to each animal and it was so interesting to see them eat. You also got the opportunity to see almost all of them up close as they came to get the food. At the end there is a special treat where you get to experience the wolves and coyotes howling.
Every single animal there is a rescue and their enclosures are so beautiful and well maintained. They are all clearly very very well cared for. The tour was 100% worth the twenty dollars spent especially since it all is put towards taking care of the wolves.

We also signed up for the wolf photo session, being in love with animals myself this was absolutely my favorite part and such a fantastic experience. For seventy five dollars four of us were aloud to go in with two of the wolves and we got to sit down and interact with the wolves. We had the opportunity to feed them frozen hot dog treats and pet them while the Center photographer took photos. She did a wonderful job and took her time making sure everybody got a photo and made sure to get separate photos of the wolves alone. After we were finished she quickly put all the original photos on a disk and gave them to us. It was such a fantastic experience and less than twenty dollars a person if you have a group of four.
If you are doing this session make sure you look at the website for rules on what to wear as certain things cannot be around the wolves such as fake fur. They make sure to tell you before you go in as well.

The center also has a wonderful small gift shop with fun things (such as bottles of wolf hair or bracelets made out of the center's wolves) and all money goes towards the wolves. Also they have other tours available such as the VIP tour where you get to spend extra time interacting with the wolves, it costs more but if I were to go back I would not hesitate to do this.

All in all if you are around the area it is absolutely worth a visit!! We drove three hours and we were very glad we did. This Center's only goal is informing people and helping these animals and they do it wonderfully. If you're hesitant just ask yourself, how often do you get the chance to view or even interact with such majestic creatures? This is an opportunity of a lifetime.

Get to know more about these wonderful animals, while at the same time helping them out. From the basic program of education and observing to a more advanced program of actually interacting with them, this is a wonderful way to spend your time.

We have visited this facility numerous times, and each time, it brings a smile to our faces and teaches us something new about these beautiful creatures. Whether you're already a wolf lover or are just willing to learn about wolves, make a stop here. The entry fee is nominal, and the experience is memorable!
