This is our second trip to Purgatory for a family ski trip. What a difference from our first trip! We opted to pay a bit more to stay at Purgatory Lodge instead of the less expensive condo complex up the road that we stayed at last time (see my review of that titled “What a Dump!” to understand why this one is “What a Difference!”). We are in a two-bedroom, two-bath condo. It is nicely decorated, spacious, well-maintained, and very comfortable. The kitchen has everything we need, and everything is updated and works. Wi-fi works great and is included. There are two flat screen TVs with basic cable (including a couple of STARZ channels). There is a parking space below the building. The balcony is fairly private, even though our unit overlooks the front entrance of the Lodge. We still have a view of the beautiful mountains, and it’s relatively quiet (except for the music that is piped out by the entrance until 8 PM - the front desk isn’t allowed to turn it off earlier, but they graciously agreed to turn it down a bit when I asked). It’s slightly annoying if you want to hang out in the room at all during the day.

We have access to the Durango Mountain Club, which is right around the corner from our room on the same floor, which is so convenient. We have a locker for our ski equipment and access to the pool, hot tub, and fitness center right there. We can grab our gear and walk right out to the lifts. The pool is well heated and has a slide. Our son loves it. The club has a pool table, video games and foosball table. There is also a Day Spa, where I’m getting a massage later (I may review that separately later). The club also has a full bar and restaurant. Both are a bit pricey, which is typical for resorts, but the bar has decent daily specials and a nice wine list. The restaurant and bar have great views, as well. The food is very good. Staff have been extremely friendly and helpful.

So, we are having a great time despite the snow conditions being far less than optimal (obviously, the resort can’t control the weather).

I highly recommend paying a bit more than some of the more bargain-priced places to have this experience at Purgatory.

Thank you for writing such a great review! The team and Purgatory Resort cares about our guests and were we live and play. The snow fall is not like most years - but the team has been working hard to make and maintain the ski terrain we have available. Currently offering 75 of 99 trails. Now all we need is a little help from mother nature. We hope you enjoy the remainder of your stay and hope to see you again in the near future. Respectfully, John

Great, very friendly service. Our condo was roomy and comfortable. Gorgeous views as well. We were a bit disappointed we weren’t allowed access to the hot tub in the pinnacle club. At those prices, we should have been allowed. But, short of that, we were pleased with our accommodations. Walking to the lift and going in for lunch was wonderful. Especially with kids!

Been to Putgatory almost yearly for 20+ years. Compared to other places,it's the best. The best price, great skiing, friendly service, nice condos, shuttle service... Another thing we really like is it's proximity to Durango and all it has to offer like shopping, restaurants, full size grocery stores, and of course the famous Durango narrow gauge train. Speaking of. Do not miss the Train Museum. It's free and awesome. Open in the winter when the train can't run. You feel like you're in a hometown, not a tourist trap.

We dropped by to ski in early Dec 2017 and they had two runs open. The high wind knocked the power out while we were on the lift.... We were refunded our lift ticket. However, the two bedroom condo we stayed at slope side was excellent. The resort check-in process was easy and thorough. The stay was comfortable and staff very responsive.

No snow is a real bummer so we cut our trip short. We will return to the same resort once it snows!

Room Tip: The higher you go in the condo the better the view and the quieter. Elevator works great.

I would buy this unit 401B if I knew how to reach the owners. I loved the unique decor-interesting contemporary and still rustic- tables with metal acid wash abstract art finish , glass covered with metal stars around the edges of both the dining room table and matching coffee table. Really cool, contempory rustic interesting and just awesome wow factor for opening the door and/or a meal with guests if I had them to cook for, but I was happy to sit back in the beige leather recliners next to the wood burning fireplace , and look out the window at the stars and enjoy the outdoor music and smells of real wood . The heated pool and hot tub is a bit of a walk-across the plaza-(although if romantic -couples would enjoy the more private 6th flr hot tub) - but worth a hike to go across the plaza and change for the more sociable hot tub-if you are young and ready to be heated up or down for a soak. Really enjoyed the stay here-even during low season with no snow-enjoyed the peace-fulness and a foot passenger pass for a view of the surrounding mts after a ride up Lift #1. Lots to do including a new Mt Slide in 2018, biking, hiking, snow shoe-ing, tubing, and enjoying the surroundings , pleasant and friendly people.
