We loved this hike! We had four in our party, ages 49,39,20 and 12. Two are in good shape and two do moderate exercise. It was great for everyone! Being able to see the town and all of its landmarks in one afternoon is perfect! We had only been at altitude for 4 days so it was a challenging hike on the lungs. Rightfully so as the elevation gain is about 1,800 ft. It's best to grab a can of oxygen to take along with you with plenty of water. It took us about 4 hours to complete and that included rest and picture stops along the way! You get to see the town, waterfalls, bridges, rivers, aspen forests, mountains, ice park, baby bathtubs formation etc. all on this one trail. Tip: if you want to see Box Canyon Waterfall on this hike, you will need to detour down to the Visitors center and pat to do so. You can then go down to see the falls and then come back up and pick up on the Perimeter Trail where you left off! So many great picture opportunities! It's the best way to see Ouray and it's free! Definitely take a map as well. The section around the baby bathtubs isn't marked well in some parts and can be confusing.
